Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping February goes a bit better than January did for them.

Things both on and off the pitch did not go well for the Reds with a transfer market to forget and performances being well below where they have been in the first half of the season.

Indeed, the club only won one game last month and that was against Plymouth in the FA Cup, with a replay needed to boot.

Meanwhile, they were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Southampton and, indeed, the FA Cup by Wolves as well as seeing their title challenge take a hammering.

Things need to improve starting this weekend, then, and the Reds face a battle against relegation strugglers Hull City.

The Tigers will be eager for all three points and so the Reds need to match them for commitment and desire whilst our landlord reckons if they go with this XI they will manage to take the win…

GK: Simon Mignolet

Mignolet showcased the best and worst of his ability against Chelsea earlier this week. He could have done more to stop David Luiz’s free-kick but did well to save Diego Costa’s penalty. He’ll start here.

RB: Nathaniel Clyne

The right back is back in the fray after a brief injury and will be looking to link up with Sadio Mane again. The two have been dynamite down the right this year at times.

CB: Joel Matip

Matip had a pretty solid game against Chelsea and Diego Costa though he did give away a penalty. He should start for this one though.

CB: Dejan Lovren

Lovren had a steady game against the Blues and will start alongside Matip. They need to be alert for this one and avoid making silly mistakes.

LB: James Milner

Milner had another solid game for the Reds against Chelsea but we’re hardly surprised by that. He’ll need to try and get forward as much as possible for this one.

CM: Jordan Henderson

The skipper eventually found the pass to unlock Chelsea at Anfield on Tuesday and will need to have that in his locker here. Hull will sit deep and will be there to be beaten by the Reds.

CM: Georginio Wijnaldum

Wijnaldum seems to love a header and showcased his ability to score goals when coming late into the box against Chelsea. This is an away game, though, so expect him to draw a blank.

CM: Adam Lallana

Lallana has gone off the boil recently and looks one of the most tired players out there. He’s not suited to play in the final third where he has been recently, though, so a drop deeper may work out.

RW: Sadio Mane

The right winger is back and our local Reds are loving it. He should be back up to speed and in the starting line-up for this game.

ST: Roberto Firmino

Firmino should have won the game against Chelsea at Anfield in the week and needs to improve in that respect. He’s got the ability to be a top striker but he needs to get in the box more than he currently does.

LW: Philippe Coutinho

Coutinho has been very quiet since his return from injury and needs to start reminding us of what he can do. He’s class but needs that consistency to be in the elite bracket.
