Six wins, two draws and only one defeat marked a pretty successful pre-season campaign for Crystal Palace this summer, and Alan Pardew’s team will be going into their opening game with West Brom with a tidy amount of confidence.

It doesn’t get much better than that but the Eagles are facing the very real prospect of losing star man Yannick Bolasie, who is being closely courted by Everton, with a deal thought to be on the very near horizon.

He’s been a crucial part of Palace’s squad for over four years now and will be undoubtedly missed if he does leave Selhurst Park with the season just around the corner.

So without the Congolese striker, can Palace still compete in the league or are they set to struggle for the upcoming campaign?

With all this in mind, here’s how Palace should lineup against West Brom on Saturday in a game they can very much win, even without Yannick Bolasie.

GK: Steve Mandanda

A controversial pick ahead of regular shot-stopper Wayne Hennessey, but the French veteran will bring so much quality to the Palace goal.

The former Marseille man kept a clean sheet in his first game for the Eagles in their pre-season win over Farnborough Town on Monday evening, and he will challenge for the number one jersey all season.

RB: Joel Ward

A consistent performer in the side last season, Joel Ward will be Palace’s number one full-back again this season providing injury doesn’t hamper his campaign.

He’s versatile too and has played pretty much everywhere in his professional career apart from upfront or in goal.

CB: Scott Dann

Had been linked with a move away from Selhurst Park this summer but he looks set to the stay for the upcoming season at least.

He’s come on leaps and bounds since starting out at Coventry City and is the rock at the heart of the Palace defence. A big, big player for Alan Pardew’s team.

CB: Damien Delaney

Has been a mainstay in the Palace team since joining from Ipswich Town in 2012 and is considered as one of the most reliable players in the team.

Gets on the scoresheet quite a bit for a defender too, dispatching sixteen times in his professional career already.

LB: Pape Souare

Really made the left-back berth his last season and impressed on a number of occasions, showing why he earned a new three year deal in January.

The 26-year-old isn’t hugely quick but is a stable option on the left-hand side and gets forward when needed. Again, another reliable defensive option.

CM: Mile Jedinak

Expect Palace’s captain to start the game and lead the side on many occasions this season as Palace try and push for a top-ten finish.

The Australian international has made over 175 appearances for the Eagles and is renown for his no nonsense attitude in the middle of the park, breaking up play and bringing his side out of defence.

CM: Jason Puncheon

Probably the most attacking player in this midfield three, Jason Puncheon has been one of the most underrated performers in this Palace side for a couple of years now.

Has played out on the wing and behind the striker in his career, which started at Wimbledon back in 2003. Brings pace and guile to the Eagles’ midfield.

CM: Yohan Cabaye

The playmaker in this midfield three, Yohan Cabaye seems to get more and more composed every time he takes to the field.

Can go on and be one of Palace’s biggest players again this season with his goals, passing ability and workrate. Would get into most Premier League starting elevens and expect him to pull the strings against the Baggies.

LW: Lee Chung-Yong

The Korean international winger is expected to start the game with the Bolasie deal edging ever closer, even if the Congolese striker is still at the club come Saturday.

He’s pretty experienced at this level, having spent a large part of his career with Bolton Wanderers before their more recent demise and will play a bigger role if no-one is brought into replace Bolasie, which seems unlikely.

ST: Connor Wickham

You never quite feel that Connor Wickham has ever reached his true potential since starting his career with Ipswich Town.

He’s still only 23 but seems to have been around for a long time now, and he has a big season ahead of him.

There aren’t many senior goalscoring strikers on Palace’s books at the moment and he will need to get the goals for Alan Pardew’s team this season.

RW: Wilfried Zaha

Brings so much pace to Palace’s right-hand side and much like Wickham, he will have to really step up of Palace are to have a good season this time out.

He carries a lot of attacking burden and will look to get straight off the mark against the Baggies.
