Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern have been eagerly awaiting the start of the Premier League in recent weeks, with their new look first XI no doubt going to get the side challenging for the title.

Jose Mourinho’s Man United have already captured Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eric Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and a host of other names are expected to join in the coming days and weeks.

Together, this new look team that has been assembled by Jose Mourinho might just be unstoppable next season.

Our landlord has drawn up a first team that he thinks would absolutely romp at Bournemouth on the opening day, as the side begin their charge back to the top.

Here is a 4-4-2 XI Man Utd line-up that would dominate Bournemouth on the opening day….

Goalkeeper – David De Gea

It was one of the most important pieces of business that Man Utd could do this summer; and so far it looks like they have been successful.

The club have held on to David De Gea. 

There is no keeper available on the market today that possesses as much raw talent, quality, and shot stopping ability than David De Gea, and it was absolutely essential that Mourinho held on to the Goalkeeper.

Every good side builds from the back; and there is no better way to start that building process than with David De Gea between the sticks.

 

Defence – Luke Shaw, Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly, Matteo Darmian

A relatively familiar defence is set to start the season in a few weeks time.

Matteo Darmian excelled last season at right back, offering defensive stability, whilst also posing a threat going forward.

Under Mourinho he will no doubt look to kick on and make that spot his own.

After recovering from a horrific leg break, Luke Shaw will be looking to regain his spot in the United first team if he can get fully fit in time. An in-form Luke Shaw is one of the best full backs in England, and he will no doubt get back to that level of play in no time.

Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly will likely be the options that Mourinho goes for in the middle of the park. Chris Smalling really found his form last year, proving that he is one of the best central defenders in England.

Eric Bailly is, for most fans, an unknown quantity, given that he was a relatively unknown name before signing for Man Utd.

The £30 million fee no doubt indicates how highly Mourinho thinks of the new defender however, and therefore he will no doubt step straight into this defence as the only new face.

A very strong back line.

 

Midfield – Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Paul Pogba, Morgan Schneiderlin, Anthony Martial

A completely revamped Manchester United midfield will change what was an unimpressive and uncommanding midfield line into a dominating, progressive midfield next year.

New signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan will no doubt start on the right hand side, offering electric pace and technical ability, whilst also not being afraid to do the dirty side of the game; getting back and helping his young defence.

On the other side Anthony Martial will look to play.

Whilst he is more of an attacking player, Mourinho will no doubt look to do with him what he did with Eden Hazard at Chelsea; teaching him the importance of the defensive side of the game.

In doing so, he will become a far greater option against top sides defensively whilst also offering deadly pace and technical ability going forward.

Morgan Schneiderlin did not enjoy the best first season at United, typically only used sparingly by Louis Van Gaal. His style of play is definitively Mourinho, and our Landlord expects him to find his position in this new look midfield.

Paul Pogba looks set to become United’s star talisman, with a deal expected to go through in the coming days. The midfield maestro will complete this United team, dominating the United field and pushing balls forward to his dominating forward line.

 

Attack – Wayne Rooney, Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Jose Mourinho recently revealed where he sees Wayne Rooney playing next season, and unlike Van Gaal it is NOT in midfield.

Mourinho wants to bring the once deadly striker back into the United attack, perhaps playing alongside another striker in a deadly two-up-top formation.

Everyone knows how good Rooney can be, and United fans will no doubt be hoping that he regains his form next year.

He will no doubt be joining by prolific frontman Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is a player that, like Rooney – everyone knows how good he is.

His goalscoring record speaks for itself, and if he can replicate his recent form next season in England – he could fire United to the title on his own.
