Manchester United face off against Manchester City in the International Champions Cup on Monday, and our regular punters cannot wait to see Guardiola face off against Mourinho!

Our regular Red Devils fans are still getting over the club’s 4-1 humiliation to Thomas Tuchel’s Borussia Dortmund, and are hoping the club can seal a major win against Guardiola’s City on Monday in Beijing.

Man United fans over by the pool table here in the Tavern are deciding what the starting line-up should be for the side, as they face off against the Citizens, and there has been differing opinions, if you will.

Rashford? Keane? Depay? Who to start upfront? That’s the main topic of debate over by the jukebox here in the Tavern!

So, our landlord has put his brains together with the United contingent and has come up with a Man Utd 4-4-2 line-up that will demolish Guardiola’s City…..

David De Gea

It just has to be De Gea.

The Spanish goalkeeper is among the best in the world in his position, and it is essential that Mourinho gives De Gea a chance in goal.

Mourinho opted to utilise Sam Johnstone against Dortmund, and that seemingly did’t work with the young keeper conceding four goals.

RB: Antonio Valencia

The midfielder turned right-back is adept both defensively and offensively, and will put a shift in against Manchester City down the right flank.

Our Man United fans here in the Transfer Tavern think that the 30-year-old is one of United’s most underrated players, and thinks he should start against City in Beijing.

CB: Eric Bailly

Bailly didn’t have the best of matches against Borussia Dortmund, with the side conceding four goals.

Mourinho will surely look to implement him back in the side against City, to ultimately keep his morale and confidence high.

The centre-back looked incredibly composed and comfortable in United’s pre-season match with Wigan Athletic, and our landlord expects much of the same against BVB.

CB: Daley Blind

The Dutchman needs to be utilised as a centre-back because he is excellent at passing, yet, is superb defensively.

Mourinho will surely use the match against City as a tester for how Blind can operate at centre-back against an elite Premier League side like Manchester City.

LB: Luke Shaw

Set to be one of Mourinho’s key players next season, it is essential Shaw gets as much game-time as possible in pre-season.

Mourinho needs to start the ex-Saints defender at left-back against City, to ultimately help his match fitness, and get him back on track to achieve the potential we all know he has.

RM: Adnan Januzaj

Having started on the bench against his former loan club, Borussia Dortmund, on Friday the Belgian winger is likely to be given a chance to impress against Guardiola’s side.

He is a player with a lot to prove having arrived on the scene in 2013 full of promise which is yet to be fulfilled.

The 21-year-old has been linked with another loan move this summer but will take any advantage that comes his way to impress Mourinho.

CM: Michael Carrick

A United mainstay for years who now really has something to prove with the arrival of Paul Pogba looking imminent.

Going into the new season Mourinho, with or without the £100m man in his squad, has a wealth of options in central midfield.

With that in mind, the former Tottenham midfielder will want to use the pre-season Manchester derby as a chance to show that, even at 34, he can still be an integral part of a Red Devils midfield.

CM: Juan Mata

As already mentioned, Mourinho probably has the most swelled midfield in the Premier League, and will want to utilise these pre-season marketing campaigns – sorry, friendlies – to assess his options.

The Spanish international has more to prove than most other United players, having been sold by the new boss during his time at Chelsea, as it was deemed he didn’t work as hard as other midfielders.

LM: Memphis Depay

The Dutch international has a lot to do, like most United players after last season, to show the ‘Special One’ that he deserves a spot in his side come August and the start of the Premier League season.

The 22-year-old was bought to Old Trafford by Louis Van Gaal last summer and arrived with bags of potential and caused quite a stir.

However, if last season was anything to go by, that potential is a long way off of being realised, Depay needs to impress and quickly.

ST: Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford’s first appearance in a Manchester derby couldn’t have gone better, with the England international scoring a sensational winner at the Etihad earlier this year.

While, clearly, things are different now, the 18-year old is likely to be handed a starting berth after coming on a substitute in the dreadful loss to Borussia Dortmund on Friday.

Able to drift wide or push forward, the United star can further stake his claim in Mourinho’s burgeoning Old Trafford plans.

ST: Memphis Depay

Tried through the middle on his own, Memphis Depay hasn’t really worked out as a central striker.

Still, the 22-year old can operate in a fluid moving front two with the 18-year old, with constant movement likely to pull Guardiola’s backline apart, while creating space for some of the technicians further behind.
