Liverpool had a very busy transfer window this summer and our resident Reds punters in the Transfer Tavern are relatively pleased with their club’s business.

Loris Karius, Joel Matip, Georginio Wijnaldum, Sadio Mane and Ragnar Klavan were some of the more high profile incomings as Jurgen Klopp assembles a side that can carry out his high pressing game.

So far the signs are fairly good, too.

Although the Reds only have four points on the board they have won away at Arsenal and were the better team away at Spurs, the only blot has been a loss at Burnley.

These performances in the main have shown the squad are able to take Klopp’s instructions on whilst the new signings also appear to be fairly decent too.

It’ll be a relief if they all turn out to be good signings as the Reds have a history of signing some shocking footballers as our landlord is about to demonstrate. What were they thinking with this FOUR?

Antonio Nunez

Nunez was part of the Champions League winning squad so you’d think fans looked back on him fondly.

Well, you’d be wrong.

The Spaniard attacking midfielder left very little legacy during his short stint at the club after Rafa Benitez signed him and when you consider Michael Owen went to Real Madrid the other way as part of the deal, it makes things even more confusing.

Benitez had a mare here.

Bruno Cheyrou

When the French midfielder signed under Gerard Houllier the manager proudly declared the Reds had signed the next Zinedine Zidane.

High praise indeed but Reds fans would have forgiven him even if he’d only turned out to be half the player Zidane was, but he didn’t.

He came nowhere near the Reds first team for any amount of significant time and was soon shown the door.

Anthony Le Tallec

Le Tallec actually spent seven years as a Liverpool player but went on loan a lot.

The French forward was meant to be part of the side that clinched Liverpool the title after near misses in the early 2000’s, but he made a measly 17 appearances during his time at the club not even getting close to finding the back of the net.

He simply wasn’t good enough and now he plays for Atromitos in Greece.

El Hadji Diouf

Diouf joined with a fairly decent reputation from Ligue 1, but it quickly became apparent he wasn’t going to be the Reds faithful’s new striking hero.

He scored a poultry three goals for the club before moving on to Bolton, but it wasn’t just his shambolic performances that enraged Reds fans, he was, to be frank, a pretty nasty bit of work.

And that’s being kind.
