The Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are painting a pretty glum picture right now.
After the initial excitement surrounding the arrivals of Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Jose Mourinho at the start of the season that feeling has now been replaced by the worry that the Red Devils face another season of not finishing even in the top four, let alone winning the league.
The Red Devils supporters have seen the likes of Manchester City stroll into Old Trafford and brush their team away whilst Chelsea absolutely blitzed them on Sunday 4-0 leaving a sense of serious work to do around the club.
They’ve also seen losses to Watford and Feyenoord in the Europa League come about and for a club like United, that isn’t good enough.
Nevertheless, it’s not all doom and gloom, our landlord reckons these FOUR things will cheer up even the most miserable of United fans…
Jose Mourinho
Think what you like about Mourinho at the moment he is still a winner and knows how to get results.
He may be in slight difficulty at the moment but you don’t win the titles he has without knowing a bit about managing a team.
The Red Devils fans celebrated wildly when the Portuguese was announced as Louis van Gaal’s successor and that feeling should not be gone yet.
Exciting players still to fire
When you consider that Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Wayne Rooney are all searching for form you can see the potential United still have at their disposal.
They’ve also got the likes of Anthony Martial still looking to get back to the level he was at last season so things aren’t all that bad.
As the old saying goes, form is temporary class is permanent and United have a lot of class waiting to be unlocked.
Marcus Rashford
In Marcus Rashford United have one of, if not the, most exciting prospects in English football and the Red Devils fans should be thankful he’s come through for them.
He’s a local lad too and that only makes things even better for a game that sees less and less local heroes these days.
Rashford could be sensational for the next decade and United have everything to keep hold of him right now.
Still hold the record for most league titles
United may not win the league this season but they’ll still be the record holders regardless of what happens and that means a lot to their fans.
Their closest rivals, Liverpool, may be in the title race but they haven’t won the league since 1990 so there’s every chance they won’t do so this year either.
The Red Devils will not be losing their stranglehold completely on English football just yet.
