Liverpool have had a rather inconsistent season this year, and our regular Reds fans here inside the Transfer Tavern don’t really know what to make of it.
The indifferent results of Brendan Rodgers’ tenure at the beginning of this campaign largely continued into the reign of current manager Jurgen Klopp.
The German has certainly galvanised the fans and though there have been some strikingly good results, there have also been the persistent lapses in concentration that plague the side.
Things for Liverpool are starting to look positive though. Klopp has guided the Anfield outfit to a Europa League final, beating the likes of Dortmund and Manchester United on the way, as well as reaching the League Cup final.
All it needs now is for Klopp to improve Liverpool’s league form and there’s no doubt he’ll be already looking at where he can bolster his squad to achieve this.
The summer transfer market is set to be as competitive as ever and could see the most money spent in a window what with the new TV rights deal for Premier League clubs.
The Reds board are sure to afford the German significant funds but what bargains are available at the moment that could prove just as effective for 2016/17?

Sofiane Feghouli
Feghouli can play on the left and right wings and has pace to burn.
He’s figured in all of Valencia’s competitions this season, including 21 appearances in La Liga and five in the Champions League where he scored two goals.
He can use either foot and with eleven goals in 39 caps for his country Algeria, he clearly as the ability to play at the top level.
The Valencia man would work well for Klopp’s side given his ability to play wide and the fact that Liverpool have often been too narrow this year.
Nicolas N’Koulou
N’Koulou could be the answer to Liverpool’s defensive issues.
It’s a big summer for the Reds’ back four.
Martin Skrtel could be leaving, Kolo Toure’s future is undecided and Mamadou Sakho is set to be facing a ban for testing positive for an illegal substance.
Dejan Lovren has improved this year but with only the incoming Joel Matip definitely in the squad for next season, the centre half position looks weak.
N’Koulou is coming into his prime at 26 and has been a mainstay for Marseille in Ligue 1. He could be the answer for Klopp.
Roman Neustadter
The Ukrainian born German is 28 and has been at Schalke for four years.
Equally adept at playing as a holding midfielder or a centre half, Neustadter would help strengthen the areas where Liverpool currently look short of players.
He’s made 37 appearances for his side this year and standing at 6ft 2in would add some much needed physicality into a relatively small team.
Steve Mandanda
Liverpool’s goalkeeping problems are well documented.
Simon Mignolet is a good shot stopper but when it comes to dominating his area and collecting crosses the Belgian is left wanting.
A new ‘keeper should be top of Liverpool’s shopping list this summer and the Frenchman Mandanda would be a good option.
He’s kept nine clean sheets this season in Ligue 1 and has made 22 appearances for Les Bleus and would prove an assured man between the sticks at the age of 31.
Andrija Zivkovic
The young Serbian is one to watch and will no doubt have plenty of offers this summer.
He can play on the right wing or as a striker and knows where the goal is with seven strikes in his 15 SuperLiga appearances.
Zivkovic has also made three appearances for his senior national team and with the likes of his compatriot Marko Grujic already on his way to Merseyside, Zivkovic may fancy linking up with him at Melwood.
