Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are a split bunch at the moment, as they’re divided across the two sides of the pool tables with contrasting views on the players, the manager and the club’s transfer policy.
The latest discussion to centre around the transfers is in regards to Marcos Rojo, who Metro state is a transfer target for Real Madrid.
Fans are debating whether the Argentine defender should be allowed to leave and things got a bit aggressive, which led to our landlord intervening and sparking a new discussion- which five players could leave alongside Rojo.
It’s got the punters’ minds working at full throttle as they debate who is likely to leave, who could be snatched up and who should be forced out. In the end, they’ve decided on five players for a variety of reasons.

Victor Valdes
A unanimous decision amongst the fans, it’s clear Victor Valdes will finally be relieved from his Manchester United nightmare in January. After a high-profile fall-out with Louis Van Gaal over the summer, the Spaniard has been axed from the first-team.
Where Valdes will move to is anyone’s guess but it’s quite clear there is no place for him at Old Trafford. He’s taking up wages, and squad space, so an exit for the experienced former Barcelona stopper is ideal for all parties.
Nick Powell
A player who could be on the move permanently come the end of the season, Nick Powell has a few months to assure himself of a future at Old Trafford. With two caps for Louis Van Gaal’s side, he’s made the cut before but has found playing opportunities difficult to come by.
Preston North End are favoured to land Powell on-loan until the summer, where Powell’s contract expires, and if he doesn’t impress then he’s unlikely to earn himself a new deal at Old Trafford, which would dramatically change the course of his career.
Marouane Fellaini
A player that optimises the disastrous tenure of David Moyes, Marouane Fellaini has never quite settled in at Manchester United. With regular first-team football out of his reach, Fellaini is available in January- but only for a permanent deal.
AC Milan have already failed with a loan swoop for the Belgian international and they face competition for his signature from rivals Inter Milan. However, the €25m asking price could be problematic for both sides as their financial standings aren’t as solid as their English counterparts.
David De Gea
A player Manchester United are desperate not to lose, David De Gea saw a transfer to Real Madrid in the summer dramatically fall apart at the last second. However, there’s the chance that Los Blancos could revive their interest.
Real Madrid are underperforming this season and pressure is on manager Rafael Benitez. A high-profile signing like De Gea could increase his reputation in the Spanish capital, though it’s unlikely to come cheap.
For many in the Transfer Tavern, it’s a case of when, not if, De Gea gets sold.
Andreas Pereira
A youngster who is far from happy with his playing opportunities at Manchester United, Andreas Pereira is seeking an exit in January and the Red Devils are unlikely to stand in his way. However, there’s always concerns that he could shine elsewhere.
United learnt their less the hard way with Paul Pogba and won’t want to lose another talented midfielder. With Louis Van Gaal not handing the player the opportunities he craved though, United have no leg to stand on if they are to fend off interest.
