Aside from Jose Mourinho, the other Premier League manager who is really feeling the strain at the moment is Brendan Rodgers who has witnessed his Liverpool side ship six goals in just their last two fixtures against West Ham United and Manchester United.
With Reds fans getting that sinking feeling again after coming so close to scooping the title back in 2013/14, the performances have been deemed unacceptable in quarters with one Liverpool fan having even set up a petition fund to get Rodgers sacked this week.
Today, former Reds director of football strategy Damien Comolli has come out and claimed the club’s shaky start is down to Rodgers making too many expensive panic signings in the transfer window but in all fairness, people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones when it comes to the Frenchman and his previous involvement.
One thing is for sure, Liverpool need to find a way of winning again and fast in order to not only convince rival fans but also themselves that they’re up for the fight to battle with the likes of Manchester City for the title and not the likes of Tottenham for fourth place instead.
With many of Liverpool’s signings from last season turning out to be a complete and utter waste of money with a number of passengers in the Reds’ squad, we’re keeping this theme in mind while devising a list of the five most overrated players in Liverpool’s squad at the moment.

Adam Lallana
Currently Liverpool’s fourth most expensive signing of all-time, arriving at Anfield from Southampton for a fee of £25 million and just under £3 million more than Luis Suarez once cost from Ajax, we think the England international has left Brendan Rodgers short changed thus far.
In his time with the Saints, Lallana was very much the big fish in a small pond, experting his Cruyff turns while putting in a number of sublime solo performances.
However, since his big move to Merseyside last summer, he’s looked far more jaded with a lack of impact in several games with the player yet to really nail down a regular berth in Brendan Rodgers’ starting eleven.
Despite this status however, Liverpool fans will sometimes still claim ‘we have Adam Lallana’ too but we think they’re remembering the Southampton Lallana and not the Liverpool version!
Jordon Ibe
An opinion that was socially mocked by the witty folk on Twitter, many meme-based handles created graphics that claimed Jordon Ibe was better than Raheem Sterling anyway after the now Manchester City man chose to defect from Anfield this summer.
While this was exacerbated as a joke of course, there were still some Liverpool fans who were legitimately claiming that Ibe was always the better prospect which seems hard to believe when you simply look at how much of an impact Sterling made compared to Ibe when initially thrust into the limelight.
In fairness, Ibe has enjoyed some decent outings in Liverpool’s first team to date but given what we’ve just mentioned, not to mention the fact that even Roy Hodgson was hinting at a first senior England call for Ibe recently, we just can’t help but think it’s all a bit too much, too soon in his career?
Joe Allen
We’re going to make this VERY clear!
We don’t think Liverpool fans overrate Joe Allen; we actually think he’s rated far too highly by his manager Brendan Rodgers instead who’s made the player really look out of his depth by fielding him in traditional top four battles where he’s flattered to deceive as a lightweight option.
Actually a player who Liverpool fans often wonder exactly what he does on the pitch, Allen has still been rather consistently utilised by Rodgers who appears to play him as if he were his son, having brought him to the club from Swansea City of course.
With James Milner now a Liverpool player, Allen is receiving less game time and that’s a good thing according to our Reds supporters drinking by the bar.
They just wonder why it took Rodgers so long to notice!
Divock Origi
When Liverpool moved to secure the services of Divock Origi, it took place last year whereby there was a certain level of excitement surrounding the Belgian youngster who had been called up as a wildcard option for the Red Devils following a sublime breakthrough season with Lille in 2013/14.
Immediately loaned back to Lille for the 2014/15 season on loan, things didn’t go to plan for Origi in his second spell with the Belgian actually ranked in a worst Ligue 1 XI of the season.
Despite his stock having fallen, Liverpool fans still sub consciously browse over his name on the teamsheet with a certain level of reassurance over their squad depth but for whatever reason, it took until gameweek five for Brendan Rodgers to utilise his talents against Manchester United this past weekend.
Strangely kept on the bench against West Ham United in the Reds’ 3-0 humbling at Anfield when they needed a spark, we wonder whether even Rodgers himself is so keen on giving the player more regular game time.
Jon Flanagan
Don’t get us wrong, we recognise that Jon Flanagan was a key cog in Liverpool’s oh so close tilt at the Premier League title back in 2013/14 but one particular comment that was mocked by social media was one by Brendan Rodgers at the end of last season where he whimpered that the Liverpudlian’s injury was in part a key contributor their poor season last term.
With Reds fans having previously claimed they had the English Cafu on their hands, we can’t help but feel some Liverpool supporters rate him a little bit too highly, especially considering he hasn’t managed to get himself fit since that season.
