The summer transfer activity is in full swing and Arsenal have seen an early deal completed, signing Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach, but there continues to be plenty of rumours surrounding the Gunners’ planned activity.
Amidst all the exciting reports and moves that would make sense, there is always a number of stories that are just downright bizarre- hence why the market gets dubbed ‘silly season’.
Media outlets throughout the world seem to adopt the strategy of if you throw enough darts, something will surely stick and that’s led to some pretty hilarious rumours on the transfer market- and the window is still yet to officially open (stick July 1st down in your diaries).
Here, taking a break from all the madness, we’ve decided to have a chuckle to discuss some of the most ridiculous Arsenal transfer stories so far in what’s set to be a busy summer- surely none of these have a chance of actually happening!?

Robert Lewandowski

Speculation concerning the future of Bayern Munich’s world-class forward continues to flood the gossip pages but in reality there’s only a couple of clubs who could genuinely afford the Polish international- and Arsenal aren’t one of them.
For a side that has only spent in excess of £30m on three occasions in their history, signing Robert Lewandowski is an extremely unlikely scenario, particularly as it would take at least double that fee for his services, but that didn’t stop The Sun from reporting Arsenal’s interest.
I’m sure Arsenal would love to sign Robert Lewandowski- and they’d probably take Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Lionel Messi too. Unfortunately, it’s not going to happen.
Kostas Mitroglou

From the downright unrealistic to the sheer bizarre, Portuguese media reporting a few weeks back that Arsenal were keen on Kostas Mitroglou. Sound familiar? That’s because he’s the man that Fulham signed but made just three Premier League appearances, with the West London outfit relegated.
To be fair to the Greek striker, he’s done well on-loan at Benfica this season but he’s hardly the name that Arsenal fans are crying out for and he’s not an upgrade on Olivier Giroud. If Arsene Wenger was to sign this man, fans would probably burn the Emirates to the ground.
The scary thing is, it’s so bizarre that it sounds like something Arsene Wenger could actually do…
Kurt Zouma

After signing Petr Cech from London rivals Chelsea last summer, and seeing the goalkeeper go on to claim the golden glove this season, it’s pretty much impossible that Arsenal would land another player from the Blues this summer.
Still, last week it was reported that the Gunners have made contact with Chelsea and we can only assume the Blues laughed down the phone before abruptly hanging up. Sure, Antonio Conte may oversee a host of changes this summer but selling one of Chelsea’s most exciting prospects would be a worrying call.
Zouma is a key-part of Chelsea’s future, especially with John Terry’s career coming to an end in the next few years, and the Frenchman will probably be a regular feature for the Blues this season.
Alvaro Morata

Let’s just start off by saying Arsenal could definitely complete the signing of Alvaro Morata this summer but the ridiculous aspect of the rumours is down to the price-tag, with it claimed the Gunners will have to splash £50m on the Spaniard.
That fee would make Morata the most expensive signing in Arsenal history and given his unconvincing goal record, it would certainly raise question marks. £40m is a price that you could see happening, though £35m seems more far, but £50m is just sheer madness.
Add to the fact that Arsenal have already splashed £30m this window and it raises the unlikelihood of this expensive signing further, as pigs will fly before Wenger splashes £80m in one window.
Daniel Sturridge

There’s two things that are unlikely in a summer window- signing a player from a direct rival and signing a player who’s likely to spend the majority of the year on the sidelines through injury. Whilst it may sound like Arsenal all over, we simply can’t see Liverpool agreeing to sell Daniel Sturridge to the Gunners.
A reported £30m may seem like a fair price but when you consider he’s most likely to be a play-mate for Danny Welbeck and Jack Wilshere on the treatment table, it shows your better off by using the money to play roulette at the casino- as the risk vs reward is similar to that of signing Sturridge.
If he did find fitness, he’d be a brilliant player for Arsenal but that’s exactly why Liverpool won’t sell, as he still has the potential to be the prolific forward Jurgen Klopp’s side needs.
