5 players that could follow Reece Oxford to Manchester United this summer

The Manchester United transfer rumour mill is going into overdrive at the moment, and our United fans in the Transfer Tavern seem to have a new incoming player to discuss every day.

The latest name linked with the club is the young West Ham defender Reece Oxford who has had a breakthrough season this year.

The Metro is quoting ESPN FC where a source for their website thinks the young Hammer could be after a move away from the club.

Rumours around Oxford’s future are beginning to mount after he reportedly turned down the latest contract offer from the east London club, and if a move away does come to pass, Manchester United could be his destination.

There’s plenty of potential transfer activity to come at the club with Jose Mourinho’s imminent arrival, as the former Chelsea manager will try to reshape the team into title challengers once more.

Reece Oxford could just be the tip of the iceberg and our landlord here at the Transfer Tavern thinks these FIVE might join him at the club…..

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Ibrahimovic would be the answer to United’s striker issues.

Wayne Rooney looks set to be deployed in midfield more and Marcus Rashford – though hugely impressive in his breakthrough season – still needs time to improve.

The Swede would be the perfect man to lead the Red Devils’ attack for the next few seasons as Rashford matures, bringing his goals and power to an attack that sorely needs it.

Nemanja Matic

United really lack a holding midfielder especially with Michael Carrick coming towards the end of his career.

Matic was outstanding for Mourinho in their title winning campaign in 2014-15 before losing his way, much like the rest of the team, for this season.

You cannot doubt Matic’s ability though when he’s on form and United would benefit hugely from his presence in the holding role.

Sadio Mane

Mane has had another strong campaign for Southampton this season and would inject a considerable amount of pace going forward for United.

The Senegal international scored eleven goals in 37 games in the Premier League this year which is impressive for someone predominantly playing down the left flank.

He’s a strong runner, good at finishing and works hard for his team – he fits the Mourinho player profile perfectly.

Lassana Diarra

Diarra

Diarra is a French international and knows Mourinho from their time together at Real Madrid and in the Portuguese’s first spell in charge at Stamford Bridge.

At the age of 31 he still has a good few years left in him and would be another good option for United’s holding midfield role.

Playing for Marseille, Diarra would probably command a cheaper transfer fee than Matic too.

Marquinhos

The PSG defender is set to be one of the best in world football for the next decade, and so it would take a big bid to convince the Parisians to sell up.

There are reports though that Mourinho could be handed £200 million to rejuvenate the squad, and therefore any bid for Marquinhos could be on.

United have been fairly tight at the back this season but Mourinho knows it can be improved on and the Brazilian would help do this.
