Manchester United fans return to the Transfer Tavern on a daily basis to pester our bar staff on the latest rumours, as they pray for additions in the New Year that will strengthen their quest for the Premier League title.
They were excited this morning to see links with FC Basel striker Breel Embolo, who they feel would be a valued addition to their forward contingent, but they’re adamant that more business needs to be completed in the New Year.
Seemingly not enough for our punters, they’re asking who else could potentially follow Embolo to Old Trafford in January- and they’re rubbing their hands in excitement after hearing our list of players.
Then again, it could just be due to the cold weather outside. We’re not quite good at telling the difference so we want to know what you think of these five potential signings for United, let us know in the comments below!

Jamie Vardy

After setting a Premier League record for scoring in the 11th consecutive match, against Manchester United no less, interest in Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy is skyrocketing. Whilst the Foxes are flying-high, and adamant they do not want to sell, a big offer could leave them vulnerable.
Not many clubs would be prepared to pay a high price for Vardy but United are one of them, as just 20 goals in the league this season has left their title credentials under scrutiny. With 14 goals already this season, Vardy could be the perfect recruit.
Borja Valero

A surprise rumour emerged over the weekend that linked former West Brom flop Borja Valero with a return to the Premier League, with Manchester United said to be eying the Spanish international. With Louis Van Gaal desperate to improve his ranks, it does make sense.
Since leaving the West Midlands, Valero has gone onto impress on the continent- including with Fiorentina this season, where he has been a crucial factor in the Italian side’s quest to clinch the Serie A title. A move to United may appeal, though it could be tricky.
Lucas Moura

Weekend rumours included a resurrection in an age-old target for Louis Van Gaal’s Manchester United, with Paris Saint-Germain’s Lucas Moura once again emerging as a potential recruit on the Dutchman’s shopping list.
The Brazilian talent is highly-rated by the French side but has limited opportunities with the Ligue 1 leaders, due to competition with Edinson Cavani and former United flop Angel Di Maria, so he could be tempted by a Premier League move.
With Manchester United looking for a pacy winger, this could be a match made in heaven.
Sadio Mane

Another pacy winger, and long-term target of Manchester United’s, is Southampton’s Senegalese international Sadio Mane. United tried to lure him to Old Trafford in the summer but failed, though this time around there’s more chance of a transfer taking place.
With Southampton’s chances of securing European football next term looking slim, Mane could be tempted by a move to Old Trafford. Perhaps crucially, the 23-year-old is also eligible to feature for the Red Devils in the latter stages of the Champions League.
Mats Hummels

With reports indicating that Mats Hummels was unhappy at Borussia Dortmund, links to Manchester United immediately arose once again. Whilst this is a deal more likely to take place in the summer, there is a chance it could happen in January.
Hummels, a World Cup winner, is playing Europa League football this term and is therefore eligible to feature in United’s Champions League campaign. That could be the factor that pushes Louis Van Gaal to target a January deal, where United have cash to spend.
