In the eyes of Manchester United supporters in the Transfer Tavern, the need for Louis Van Gaal to invest heavily in the January window was increased by the goalless draw against West Ham.
United dropped crucial points at Old Trafford, whilst also missing the chance to capitalise on defeats for Manchester City and Liverpool, which raised further questions about the Red Devils’ chances of landing the Premier League title.
For the fans gathering around the pool tables in the bar, a wealth of star names need to be added to the currently lacklustre squad in January. Therefore, they’re pleased by one particular report today.

Charley Musonda
The Chelsea youngster looks increasingly likely to depart West London due to his frustrations of not being handed first-team opportunities and Manchester United are the favourites to land the exciting talent in the New Year.
Whilst he may not be an immediate permanent addition to the first-team picture, chances to sign such a highly-rated talent from a direct rival. This would be a major coup for United and one Chelsea could be made to regret.
Sadio Mane
Mane has been the name on the lips of Manchester United fans since the summer and Louis Van Gaal is desperate to add the Senegalese international to his squad in January. The player is reportedly keen on the move but negotiating with Southampton may prove troublesome.
United are desperately seeking a pacy wide player to improve their squad though and Mane fits the bill perfectly, which increases the chances of the Red Devils paying whatever it takes to land the 23-year-old star.
Edinson Cavani
United’s striking troubles have been well documented this season and links to stellar forwards have risen as a result. Some of those reports are extremely optimistic and it’s the same case for Edinson Cavani, although it’s the more realistic of United’s top-class options.
Cavani would likely be sold for the right price, so long as PSG can find a replacement, and the Uruguayan would likely jump at the chance to become first-choice at Old Trafford. Since arriving in Ligue 1, Cavani has had to play out-wide to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic and he’d be delighted to return to his favoured central position.
Reece Oxford
Manchester United like to attract the best young English players to the club so their interest in West Ham United’s Reece Oxford is far from surprising, with it stated last week the Red Devils were battling Arsenal for the talented midfielder.
Oxford has risen to fame this season in West Ham’s first-team and looks to be an excellent player for the future, though it’s not guaranteed he would improve the starting line-up immediately. It would give Van Gaal another option though and a great talent to nurture.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Quite possibly the most unrealistic target for Manchester United in January but the money of the Premier League could prove to be too much for Borussia Dortmund to resist. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been sensational in 2015 and would cost a fortune.
However, you cannot argue that the Gabonese ace would be a welcome addition to United’s attack. His finishing prowess, combined with his blistering speed, makes Aubameyang a deadly striker that puts the fear of God into any defender he faces.
Perhaps crucially, Aubameyang would be available for the latter stages of the Champions League, should United get there.
