The Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern have been fairly disgruntled during this season with their team churning out some pretty abject performances.
Talk in the Tavern has already turned towards next season and what might happen in the summer in the way of recruitment at the club.
In order for United to sign the stellar players that they have been linked with, it is highly likely that they will have to offload some of their current crop first.
Some may be pushed out of the door whilst others may look to leave on the back of United failing to qualify for the Champions League – should that situation arise of course.
Certain reports this week have suggested that clubs in China might look to poach Wayne Rooney in the summer and although our landlord thinks its nonsense, the speculation over other players is likely to increase between now and the summer.
Here our writer Lee Clarke takes a look at FIVE players who could follow the Manchester United captain out of the club in the summer……

Michael Carrick
Carrick’s demeanour after Thursday night’s disappointing 2-1 loss to FC Midtjylland in the Europa League was that of a man who is growing increasingly frustrated at United’s form.
With talk in the Tavern saying that are Arsenal keen to take the defensive midfielder to the Emirates Stadium, Carrick might choose to stay in the Champions League for as long as he possibly can and with him now 34-years-old, he cannot afford to be waiting around.
Carrick could still do a job for any team in the Premier League and a summer move away from Old Trafford looks nailed on at this moment in time.
Memphis Depay
The Dutchman was recruited in the summer by Louis van Gaal and has arguably been the biggest waste of £25 million in the history of Manchester United.
He has flopped majorly and is yet to produce anything of note in a big game this season, with the manager choosing to leave him on the bench more often than not.
United could look to offload the 22-year-old to make room for new recruits in the summer with Depay seemingly unable to cut it in the Premier League.
They would do well to recover the outlay that they paid for the winger, but the club could look to cut their losses and wave goodbye to the flop.
Marcos Rojo
Even though United are desperately short of players who can play at full-back at present, Rojo’s time spent out injured suggest that United should probably wash their hands of the Argentinean in the summer.
The 25-year-old signed in the summer of 2014 from Sporting Lisbon but has played just 28 times for United in a season and a half.
He is currently sidelined after dislocating his shoulder for a second time since joining United, and they would be better off without him in his current state.
Injuries are an unfortunate part of being a professional footballer, but United need all hands to the pump at present and by allowing Rojo to leave, they could use his wages to bring in a better quality defender.
David de Gea
As one of the top three goalkeepers in the word, David de Gea should really be playing Champions League football, and United are unlikely to take part in the that competition next season.
With the Spanish stopper keen to move back to Madrid at some point in his career, this summer could be the transfer window where Real Madrid make their move for the custodian.
It is hard to imagine United being able to turn down an offer for one of their most effective players if the price is right, particularly if they are not playing Champions League football next season.
I would be very surprised if de Gea is still between the posts for United next season.
Ander Herrera
The little Spaniard could also be on his way out of Manchester United this summer after seemingly falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford.
Herrera seems to be made a scapegoat a lot of the time under van Gaal and the ex-Bilbao man’s forward thinking, energetic style just doesn’t seem to fit in with the ethos of the Dutchman’s patient style of play.
Herrera at the moment is wasted at United.
On his day he would play in any other Premier League team in the division and his talents are just going unrecognised at Old Trafford.
