Our punters here at the transfer tavern are baffled at how Manchester City could still want to spend more money. Currently top of the Premier League, their news signings performing well, and looking strong as ever, surely there is no need?
However, despite their strong start to the season, things sometimes haven’t all been easy on the blue side of Manchester.
Indeed, a 4-1 thrashing from Spurs last month was a reminder that City’s squad will be tested to the limits, if they want to add a third premier league crown in the space of five years to their name. Unfortunately, despite a lot of their team playing well, some members of the squad simply might not be quite up for it.
Here we have five realistic signings that Manchester City could make in January in order to consolidate their position at the top of the tree further, with the Premier League as tough as ever, a shrewd bit of business in winter could be key.

Lucas Biglia
The Lazio centre midfielder has not only been linked with Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, but also heavily so with City’s fierce rivals Manchester United.
Biglia would not only add some more bite into the midfield, but has a touch more creativity than Fernando, and could therefore provide a lot of improvement in a key area of the pitch.
Ilkay Gundogan
Gundogan has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, and with Dortmund not in the Champions League this season, Pellegrini would not need to worry about Gundogan being cup-tied.
The price for the German midfielder would be huge, but almost certainly worth it for his talents.
Dani Carvajal
A surprising name to some, given that Bacary Sagna has started the season okay. However, with age not on his side and with concerns over Pablo Zabaleta’s fitness, a new right back could be crucial for City’s success this season.
With Real Madrid spending big on bringing Danilo in from Porto, Carvajal could seek a move away from the Bernabeu for more first team football.
Fabinho
This is another option for right back. Fabinho, who currently plays for Monaco, is an exciting prospect at the age of 22. Carrying bags of energy going forward, he could not only provide good cover for Sagna for now, but could definitely be a long term successor to the role.
Victor Andrade
An exciting right winger from Benfica, the Mirror reported that City were preparing a 25m bid for his services in January. Andrade is rated as one of the most exciting talents in Europe, and while he may not be quite ready to lead City to glory just yet, he will nevertheless provide further depth in the squad, as well as being another exciting prospect for the future.
