A unanimous agreement was made in the Transfer Tavern earlier this week, with punters from a variety of teams stating they believe Arsenal are the best Premier League side of the calendar year.
Arsene Wenger’s side enjoyed fantastic form to finish their last campaign and have continued in similar fashion at the start of this season, sitting second in the table behind the sensational Leicester City- who many expect to slip-up at some point.
For the Gooners, there’s genuine belief that the squad will finally put an end to their long wait for secure a Premier League crown- with the trophy eluding them since 2004, the year they went the entire season unbeaten.
The Arsenal fans do accept that their side isn’t quite the finished product though and that they need minor tweaks to the squad in January. They told us that by securing these five targets their title would be secured- and that even a few of those on this list would be enough.

Ruben Neves
Ask any Arsenal fan in the bar who their ideal defensive-midfield recruit would be and the vast majority would say Ruben Neves who, according to them at least, ticks all the boxes. In truth, it’s difficult to argue against that view.
Neves became the youngest captain in Champions League history when he wore the armband for Porto earlier this season and at just 19-years-old, he presents an exceptional option for the future. On a short-term basis he would also be effective, filling in during Francis Coquelin’s injury absence.
Upon Coquelin’s return, Neves would compete with the Frenchman for the starting spot and it would give Arsene Wenger greater selection choices. Coquelin can’t play every game in the season, neither can Neves, so the pair would be ideal.
Isco
The Real Madrid superstar seems like a dream addition and he genuinely is, though he comes with the added boost of likely being available. The Spaniard is furious with his playing time at Real Madrid and is said to have no relationship with manager Rafael Benitez.
For Arsenal, Isco would be a fantastic addition to fill the void left by Santi Cazorla’s injury and replace his compatriot in the long-term. On top of this, Isco is also fully capable of playing in the wide positions- which could see him play alongside Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.
That would allow Aaron Ramsey to continue in his favoured central role, whilst Arsenal would be comfortable knowing that Isco could play across their five-man midfield.
Grimaldo
When you look into it, Arsenal’s options on the left-side of defence are severely depleted. Nacho Monreal has been fantastic in 2015 and is the first-choice option but an injury to him would leave only Kieran Gibbs- and the Englishman hasn’t played in defence for a while.
This season Gibbs has mostly be utilised as a winger, due to the injury problem, and even if he was to slip back into the defence Arsenal would be without back-up to him. In that aspect, Grimaldo would be the perfect addition.
The Barcelona youngster, just 20, would provide long-term competition to Gibbs and may genuinely become the best left-back Arsenal have had since Ashley Cole.
Michy Batshuayi
It’s extremely unlikely that Arsenal will make a senior striker signing in January as Olivier Giroud has been on fire, Theo Walcott has impressed thoroughly and Danny Welbeck is still to return. If Arsene Wenger does target a capable forward though, then Michy Batshuayi would be ideal.
The Marseille striker has come into his own this season with fantastic performances in Ligue 1 and the Europa League, raising his profile significantly. Marseille would fend-off any interest but Arsenal are in a much better financial position and the French side could be persuaded into a sale.
Batshuayi would present another alternative to Giroud and Walcott, whilst presenting Arsenal with a tremendous striking option for years to come.
Jese Rodriguez
Arsenal really need a natural right-winger, as it’s clear that Aaron Ramsey is far superior in the middle. Joel Campbell has done fantastically but there’s little back-up to him, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain struggling to make a positive impression.
Jese Rodriguez would be an ideal signing for Arsenal and it’s likely he will leave Real Madrid sometime in 2016, as his playing time in the Spanish capital is minimal. Capable of playing across the attacking midfield trio, or as a central-striker, Jese would add tremendous versatility to the squad.
