Chelsea fans have been enjoying their week here in the Football Transfer Tavern, having watched their side record a 1-0 victory over Manchester United last Saturday.
Jose Mourinho’s men have been counting down the weeks until they are crowned Premier League champions for the fourth time for a couple of months now, and any lingering hopes of a late charge from United was put to bed by Eden Hazard’s first half strike.
Yet despite success in the Capital One Cup, and all but certain success in the Premier League this season, owner Roman Abramovich will no doubt be demanding even more next term.
Their Champions League campaign this time around has been disappointing, and the club have been consistently been linked with the signing of Juventus star Paul Pogba – a man who would no doubt help them mount a serious challenge for a second European Cup.
Here we have identified five reasons as to why Chelsea should do all they can to lure the French international to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Will give them the edge on Man United
United have been not allowed to forget the fact they let Pogba leave the club for nothing three years ago, and have attempted to bring him back to Old Trafford numerous times since.
Based on current form and spending power, it looks as if Louis van Gaal’s side may well be Chelsea’s biggest challenger’s for the title next season.
The prospect of the Blues landing Pogba would give them not only a major advantage on the pitch, but also psychologically, given the way in which United allowed the Frenchman to leave so cheaply – only to see him go on to become one of the best midfielders in Europe.
He would be the ideal partner for Matic
Nemanja Matic has been a constant feature for Chelsea this season, usually deployed alongside Cesc Fabregas in the middle of the park.
Pogba is almost like a combination of both players, excellent going forward and scoring goals and providing assists like Fabregas, whilst his physical strength and reading of the game is similar to that of Matic.
Pogba would be the ideal man to line up alongside the Serb in Mourinho’s favoured 4-2-3-1 formation, whilst he would also enable Fabregas to move into his preferred role.
He would bring out the best in Fabregas
Nobody has provided more assists than Cesc Fabregas this season, with the Spaniard having looked far more suited to that number 10 role.
Oscar has faded during the second half of the campaign for the second season running, and Fabregas has been caught out two often defensively when playing deeper alongisde Matic.
The signing of Pogba would give Chelsea a better balance in their midfield, with Fabregas able to move into his preferred role just off the striker – a position in which he caused all sorts of problems during the Blues excellent start to the season especially.
He is a long term investment
Having already established himself as a household name in Europe, it is easy to forget that Pogba is still just 22-years-old.
Juventus are reportedly asking for a price of a staggering £70million, but Chelsea seem willing to pay it given it would be considered a long term investment for a player who has a good three or four years before he even reaches his peak.
Pogba not only has the quality to improve Chelsea immediately, but for the forseeable future also.
He has a point to prove
It is no secret Pogba was less than impressed with the way he was treated and the opportunities afforded to him during his time at Manchester United.
The Frenchman knows England didn’t get a chance to see what he is capable of, and were he to return to the Premier League he would be doing do with a point to prove.
Mourinho is exactly the right man to tap into that mentality, and that combined with his quality would see him become a major success surely.
