Antonio Conte is seemingly looking for a summer clear out at the Bridge this summer.
Since his arrival, the Transfer Tavern has been rampant with rumours surrounding the future of some of the club’s star men.
One of those players is Nemanja Matic; a player that up until last season was the first player on the Blues’ team sheet.
One bad season later and everyone is calling for his head; and we can’t understand it!

Despite the dismal dip in form this term, he was previously a stalwart under new Red Devils chief Jose Mourinho.
During that sunny spell, the Serbian was rightly lauded for his formidable outings in the middle of park, making his severe lack of form even more glaring this term.
Still, you don’t lose class overnight.

One bad year
There’s no doubting that Matic had a poor season last year. After playing in the first few games, by Christmas he had largely lost his place in the first team, and he failed to regain it throughout the season, often being limited to cameos.
Now certainly, he is being paid a lot of money so he shouldn’t be at the club if he isn’t being played every week.
But fans have to see his performances on a larger scale; he is just 27 years old and this was just one season.
Maybe Chelsea fans need to cast their minds back a year or so.
Just A Blip
Some of the Stamford Bridge faithful seemingly have a very short memory.
In the first 6 months of his time at Chelsea, Nemanja Matic was unstoppable. Fans thought he couldn’t get any better.
Then he did.
During their rise to winning the Premier League in the 2014/15 season, the former Benfica man was at the heart of everything the West London giants did.
Nobody got past the Serbian, and he, alongside Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard were the main reason as to the club won the league for the first time in half a decade.
With the season now over, Matic can look to start again and re produce the quality he had two seasons ago.
Strengthening rivals
Not only would letting him go to anyone be a terrible decision; but letting him go to Man Utd would make the decision even worse!
With Mourinho now in charge, the manager that brought out the best in him, there’s no doubting that he would once again return to his best form.
If so, the Red Devils would soon boast one of the most formidable holding midfielders in the Premier League.
An inform Matic at a rival side would be unstoppable, and he could play a big part in the title race next season.
Selling him is one thing; but selling him to rival would be unforgivable.
Fan favourite
Another reason as to why selling Matic, especially to United, would be bad for business is the fact that he remains a fan favourite.
Yes, many fans are calling for him to be sold; but many fans still recognise his quality and how much of an asset he can be to the club.
Let’s remember as well that many Chelsea fans have an affinity to the Serbian considering his roots in the Chelsea academy.
In an era where so many Chelsea heroes are leaving the club; Nemanja Matic cannot be another one.
Best in the side
Simply put, Nemanja Matic is the club’s best defensive midfielder, when in full flow.
Sure Cesc Fabregas can do a job there, and Mikel is good enough; but nobody offers as much raw talent as the solid Serb.
Chelsea have to give Matic the opportunity to prove himself at the club; otherwise they’re going to have to spend big to replicate even half of what Matic proved he could do at the club during their title winning campaign.
