Our Liverpool supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern haven’t been a cheery bunch of late having suffered three successive poor results against West Ham United, arch-rivals Manchester United and Norwich City last weekend.
Naturally, the spotlight has been cast upon Brendan Rodgers yet again with many questioning his credentials on whether he really is the man to take Liverpool forward long-term.
When looking at the list of available managers right now, two outstanding candidates spring to mind, firstly Carlo Ancelotti who was relieved of his duties of Real Madrid in the summer and also Jurgen Klopp who departed Borussia Dortmund after a decorated seven-year spell in charge of the Bundesliga giants.
Despite enduring a tough season last term, Klopp largely enjoyed his spell managing Dortmund with the club having managed to break the domination of Bayern Munich in the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons where they won the Bundesliga title back-to-back.
An extraordinary achievement of course, Brendan Rodgers almost scooped the Premier League title back in 2013/14 only for Manchester City to steal it at the death and this may well be the closest he ever comes to achieving such a feat in the Reds hotseat.
With many turning on Rodgers by the day, we wonder just how many more bad results it will take for the Liverpool board to act while perhaps moving swiftly for one of the games’ great characters in Klopp.
With this theme in mind, we’ve devised a list of five reasons why Liverpool should fire Rodgers while hiring Klopp instead.

Because new managers often have an instant impact
We’ve seen on numerous occasions in the past, no matter which level that when a new manager is brought in to immediately improve the fortunes of a struggling team, a fresh appointment often has the desired effect.
New training methods, a new personality and somebody to bring some cast out players in from the cold, whatever the reason, new managers often breed new life and hope throughout a club and we wonder whether Brendan Rodgers has finally ran out of ideas in the Anfield hotseat?
Klopp is not in employment right now but you can bet your bottom dollar that countless clubs have already spoken to him behind the scenes to check on his situation.
What’s more, Liverpool’s current run isn’t the worst they’ve ever experienced but it’s just still as worse given the fact it doesn’t really seem like the club are going anywhere fast, continuing to throw away points at home to lesser opponents such as Norwich City while failing to really launch themselves above the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City.
Because he’d get the English media on board right away
Although he is yet to manage outside his native Germany, we all know who Jurgen Klopp is and the English media have often looked on, sometimes obsessively at his infectious management style.
Like when Jose Mourinho first arrived in English football, we think Klopp would have the same effect given he is larger than life, charismatic and passionate about his work.
Those qualities would be ideal for a club such as Liverpool with Brendan Rodgers ultimately being popularly painted as a David Brent from The Office character with the @DeludedBrendan Twitter account representing just one facet that conveys nobody truly believes in the Reds boss.
For Liverpool to be taken seriously again, a great character of the game such as Klopp would be seen as an ideal appointment by Reds supporters who are craving a change in mentality, everything from signings being good enough to home performances against the Premier League’s lesser lights.
Because he has pedigree in European competition
Although Borussia Dortmund are in the Europa League this term after a below par season last term in Jurgen Klopp’s final campaign in charge, the German manager has proved he has pedigree in the Champions League by taking Dortmund all the way to the Wembley Final back in 2013.
Losing to arch-rivals Bayern Munich on that occasion, Dortmund enjoyed a fantastic run up to that game and every Liverpool fan wants to be involved in the Champions League rather than the inferior Europa League that they are currently a part of.
Klopp is known the world over of course and appointing somebody such as him who has experience at the top level is of course yet another reason why he’d be a sound appointment.
Rodgers got Liverpool back into the Champions League for last season but infamously rested the Reds’ best players for an away game at Real Madrid which was heavily criticised not only by Liverpool fans but pundits too.
Enduring a forgettable campaign in which FC Basel trumped the Reds to the second qualifying spot from the group stage, the Reds dropped into the Europa League which is where they are again this term and you can’t help but feel this is the best they’ll achieve under Rodgers at present.
Because better players may be attracted to join him
It’s also worth noting that despite dropping off in the Bundesliga last term, Borussia Dortmund still boast some fantastic players at their disposal who have opted to stay despite overtures from bigger fish in European football.
Still boasting the likes of Marco Reus, Mats Hummels, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ilkay Gundogan and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, a lot of those players were either signed or developed greatly under the coaching of Klopp and this fact cannot be overstated.
If Klopp were to take the reigns at Liverpool, perhaps a few of these players might be more inclined to sign up at Anfield given the presence of their father figure in the German boss and lets be honest, Liverpool have struggled to bring marquee names to Merseyside under the reign of Rodgers.
Having proved they can sign the likes of Luis Suarez in the past, more recently, Liverpool have really struggled to land a player with that worldwide X-factor with both Roberto Firmino and Christian Benteke still falling short of truly top level stars in the eyes of Reds supporters.
If Liverpool could land a game changing signing like an Alexis Sanchez in the form of Reus next summer or what have you, you really feel this would improve their prospects rather than splashing the cash on a plethora of over-hyped and mediocre middle-of-the-road signings.
Because he’s operated more shrewdly in the transfer market
One of Klopp’s biggest successes while managing Dortmund was his negotiation of the transfer windows where he’d bring lesser known players into Signal Iduna Park before flogging them on as ready-made stars for huge fees.
Like Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger in a way, the likes of Shinji Kagawa, Robert Lewandowski and Mario Gotze were developed at Dortmund before achieving switches to clubs playing at an even higher level such as Manchester United or Bayern Munich.
You can’t get away from the fact that Liverpool have wasted huge amounts of money in the transfer windows of the last few years with the likes of Andy Carroll, Alberto Aquilani, Dejan Lovren and Stewart Downing all proving to be expensive flops.
With somebody like Klopp in charge who has proved to be far more effective with his money, perhaps we wouldn’t see as many big money flops at Anfield under his stewardship.
