It has been one of the longest running transfer sagas of the summer, and it is still no closer to reaching a conclusion.
David De Gea has been linked with a move from Manchester United to Real Madrid for almost 12 months now, and is yet to appear for United this season with his head having been turned.
Louis van Gaal has said only yesterday he will not be selling his star goalkeeper to the 10 time European Cup winners, saying:
“I think when Manchester United wants a player he shall come, besides when a club isn’t selling.
“It is the same with us. We are not selling De Gea.”
The Spaniard does however have just one year remaining on his current deal, whilst Real Madrid boast an almost faultless record when it comes to landing their transfer targets.
With that in mind, we have identified five goalkeepers United should look to add to provide competition to summer signing Sergio Romero should De Gea complete his switch before the September 1 deadline.

Keylor Navas
The Costa Rican is reportedly being used as a bargaining tool by Real Madrid in their attempts to land De Gea, despite only moving to the Bernabeu from Levante 12 months ago.
Navas boosted his reputation with some outstanding performances for Costa Rica during the 2014 World Cup, but prior to that he had been one of the top goalkeepers in La Liga.
He deserves an opportunity to show what he can do at one of the world’s top clubs on a regular basis.
Hugo Lloris
The Frenchman has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the country since arriving at Tottenham from Lyon in the summer of 2012.
There have been continuous reports he is keen to join a Champions League club however, and although Spurs would be unwilling to sell, a major offer may make them reconsider – especially with Michel Vorm a proven Premier League keeper and an able replacement.
Lloris has a similar goalkeeping style to De Gea, whilst his distribution is almost on par with the Spaniards.
Tim Krul
A player Louis van Gaal knows well from his time in charge of the Dutch national side.
It was Krul who van Gaal famously bought on as a substitute in the penalty shootout win over Costa Rica in the quarter finals of the 2014 World Cup.
His form for Newcastle may have dipped last season, but prior to the previous campaign he had established himself as one of the leagues finest.
Seems to be a goalkeeper who would benefit from a fresh challenge.
David Ospina
The Colombian has every right to feel pretty hard done by at the moment.
He was faultless during the second half of last season for Arsenal, yet this season he finds himself relegated to the bench following the arrival of Petr Cech.
Arsenal and Manchester United are not known for doing business very often, but van Gaal would be shrewd to spot there is a decent goalkeeper with Premier League and Champions League experience just waiting to be offered regular first team football.
Fraser Forster
The Southampton keeper could be out of action until 2016, having suffered a serious knee injury in March. Prior to that however, he was on course to win the golden glove for the most clean sheets in the division, after a superb debut season in English football.
Forster has also shone previously in the Champions League with Celtic, and would help boost United’s ‘homegrown’ quota given he is a full England international.
