Here at the Transfer Tavern, we are still revelling with the news of Pep Guardiola coming to the Premier League.
There has been much talk about how he will change Manchester City into a super club and a real dominate force in Europe, not just in England.
Many of the resident fans in the Tavern have speculated which players will be brought to the Premier League when Pep arrives in the summer but many are forgetting things often work both ways.
Of course, there will be casualties within the current Manchester City squad, as he will surely want to alter the players available to him. Pep will axe some of the deadwood and move some players on who simply don’t fit his philosophy, which is likely to cause some headlines.
Our landlord decided to get some opinions from the resident Manchester City fans on who they think may be surplus to the Pep revolution at Manchester City- and they came up with EIGHT names!

Yaya Toure
The 32-year-old won titles with Pep at Barcelona but the pair clashed, with Guardiola telling the midfielder to work harder and to tell his agent who was in charge. Yaya did not too that and subsequently found himself out of the club, moving to Manchester City.
Now the Manchester city midfielder is not the player he once was and his work rate is questionable at best. His agent has already hinted that the Ivorian will leave this summer, whilst the lucrative offers from around the world stack up.
Wilfried Bony
The striker is not world class by any means but he is a good forward, although he hasn’t found the form that made him into a star at Swansea City.
He’s understandably not the same level as Aguero and players of that ilk and although his work-rate is exceptionally high, it’s unlikely that the Ivorian has a long-term future at the Etihad.
He will almost certainly be surplus to any requirements at City, as he’s currently on the fringes of the team. With Pep reportedly eying world-class names to add to the forward ranks at Man City, Bony’s fate seems sealed.
Samir Nasri
The simple fact is that Samir Nasri is not good enough for Manchester City anymore. He is a player that does not work for the team and drifts in and out of games. When the going gets tough, Nasri disappears- something Pep won’t be happy with
Nasri has plenty of talent but does not produce it enough. Looking back at his time at Manchester City, Arsenal are likely rubbing their hands at the fact they managed to get £24m for his signature.
Jesus Navas
A wide player that has no end product is not going to cut the mustard at City, if they wish to become the dominant force in Europe.
Jesus Naves goes past people and then decides not to cross, before trying to beat them again until he loses the ball. Another favourite display of the winger is to cross the ball nowhere near a team-mate, or so tamely that the opposing team have time to get drink from the sidelines before clearing the ball.
Any manager is likely to have offloaded Navas this summer and Pep’s arrival means an exit for the Spanish international is pretty much assured.
Martin Demichelis
The defender is not good enough now and has had just one good season with City. Average at best, the Argentine is on his way out.
He makes too many mistakes and his age is against him. It’s clear he will not fit with the style of play that Guardiola will develop in the North West, making him another name surplus to requirements in his new-look regime.
Fernando
Technically gifted and good in the tackle, he does work hard for the team, but is it enough? Probably not, as there is players out there who can provide the same impact he does and so much more. Fernando’s time at City just hasn’t worked out.
He has scored just two goals in his time at City after moving for £12million back in 2014 and for a player that cost that price he simply doesn’t offer enough.
Richard Wright
The 38-year-old former England keeper is one of four shot stoppers at City and they will undoubtedly move to bring in another quality keeper, to put pressure on experienced England international Joe Hart.
That would leave Wright nowhere near the starting line-up, which is true of the veteran already, and he’s likely to step into a permanent coaching role with the club this summer.
Aleksander Kolarov
The 30-year-old defender has been outstanding for City since arriving for £19million in 2010, but with the new manager will come fresh young players that can adapt to a new style of play.
The 6t 1in Serb has been an outstanding servant for the team, but he is not quite the player he used to be and the new style of play that Pep will bring will put more demands on the ageing full back.
