It’s hard to see how Pep Guardiola’s side can improve after the success last season as the club lifted both the Premier League and the Carabao Cup. The German has just two years remaining on his contract and has been targeted by Barcelona to replace Andres Iniesta. Gundogan was a crucial player for Guardiola last season and would undoubtedly need to be replaced by a top quality talent.
The perfect man for the job would be Lazio superstar Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The Serbian has developed into one of the best midfielders in the world after joining from Genk in 2015 for £16.2m. He made 48 appearances in all-competitions last season, scoring 14 and assisting nine, claiming plenty of plaudits from across the Italian media in the process. His exceptional performances have seen his market value skyrocket to £81m, making him the 13th most valuable player in the world as per Transfermarkt.
Milinkovic-Savic is one-of-a-kind footballer capable of playing in attacking and defensive midfield, despite the fact his imposing physical presence suggests he is naturally suited to a deep-lying role.
The reality is anything but as he possesses a textbook technical ability which allows him to make a decisive impact on proceedings in the final-third of the pitch.
Guardiola would be able to get the best out of the 23-year-old and enable him to become the world class talent many have predicted him to become if he bring him to the Etihad and, although he certainly won’t come cheap, he could turn out to be one of the club’s greatest ever signings.
