Here in the Transfer Tavern we love a good laugh almost as much as debating each and every team’s chances this season.
Football has the unique ability to generate amusing reactions wherever you look and with Liverpool fans it’s no different.
The city itself has a habit of producing comic heroes and it’s that dry wit that seems to have filtered down into the supporters of the Anfield club too.
The Reds have started this season fairly well navigating tough games against Leicester, Spurs and Arsenal with two wins and a draw.
As is the case with the team though, there’s always an anomaly and the loss to Burnley certainly provided a wake-up call.
That result, for Liverpool fans at least, was far from hilarious but overall there’s a lot to smile about for followers of the Merseysiders and as our landlord has found out recently, their sense of humour is as strong as usual.

Liverpool’s defensive woes are very well documented so Reds fans do well to find the lighter side in what can normally cause a lot of despair.
Maybe a pre-match beer would sort out the jitters at the back? Though some would argue they look drunk going onto the pitch anyway.

The weekend saw the Reds experiment at the back and that always sends shivers up the spine of Liverpool supporters.
The game against Leicester saw Lucas and Joel Matip join forces and the Brazilian’s presence certainly caused an air of uncertainty.

That uncertainty soon generated into a mistake and the Reds let Leicester back into the game.
Lucas got his feet in a mess and presented the ball to Jamie Vardy who duly slammed home. Cue derision.

Fortunately for the now larger Anfield crowd Liverpool pulled themselves together and saw the game out against the champions.
Simon Mignolet was particularly grateful that the Foxes hadn’t got back into the fixture and promptly showed his affections to Robert Huth.

Meanwhile, many predicted that the now fit Loris Karius would soon be making his debut for the Reds.
Mignolet’s performance didn’t go without mistakes so maybe he really was bidding a subtle farewell to the club’s fans.

As for players that have now departed a certain Mario Balotelli got back to scoring ways for Nice on his debut, bagging a brace.
This of course has led to plenty of reaction whilst Balotelli himself still maintains that he can win the Ballon D’or.

Speaking of former players one that’ll be looked back on fondly is Dirk Kuyt.

So, looking ahead after a relatively bright start the Reds travel to Stamford Bridge on Friday to take on Chelsea who look as though they’ll be without John Terry.
This news has been welcomed by Reds fans who see it as a good chance to win the game, clearly.
