Abramovich Ready To Splash £15M For A Friend In Need

The Daily star has today pointed out Roman Abramovich is interested in shipping his ‘friend’ Andrey Arshavin across the capital. The play-maker has caught the eye of the billionaire ever since he took euro 2008 by storm with performances that placed him centre stage putting the world’s best on red alert for his signature.

It was rivals Arsenal that bagged the Russian danger-man for a fee of around £15 million during the mid-season transfer window in 2009. The same amount of cash Chelsea are set to offer, that will throw the frustrated wide man a life-line.

When he first placed on the red and white jersey we could barely make out the number on his back, as his sharp movement, quick pace and technical footwork was for all to see as he lit up the emirates.

It has to be said, what once looked a hot-prospect, now looks uninterested and especially on away days tends to go missing. (Unless he’s at Anfield)

The Russian international is said to be frustrated at not playing as regular as he would like and Wenger the same, due to Arshavin underperforming. Arsenal are yet to strike a deal with the player to sign a new contract which is set to expire next summer.

Maybe the Russian connection with Abramovich could tempt Arshavin to switch to the bridge, as his un-happiness in North London is written through him like a stick of rock.

But is he what Chelsea are looking for and vice-versa? It’s no secret Arsenal’s number 23 is homesick and rumours his former club Zenit St Petersberg are in the hunt, where he spent eight impressive years playing his best football could prove the better option.

I am pursuing a career in journalism. I am a big Arsenal fan and use to love nothing more than travelling the country watching the Arsenal week in week out. I say (use) to love, I’m 100% sure i still would love it... The greatest player ever to grace the premiership is Thierry Henry in my book. Football aside, only fools and horses it is....
