The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern haven’t been too kind in their evaluation of Jordan Pickford’s performance last night. England lost 1-0 to Belgium and Pickford was well and truly beaten for the goal when Adnan Januzaj cut in from the right-hand side and curled one into the top left corner.
It’s not just conceding the goal against Belgium that has caused the Kopites to go off on one about Pickford. Overall, they just don’t think he’s very good. It’s probably not a coincidence that the abuse for Pickford is flowing so freely considering the 24-year-old shot-stopper plays his club football at Goodison Park, although the Reds aren’t the only ones who would happily see one of Gareth Southgate’s other two ‘keepers Nick Pope or Jack Butland given a chance.
England’s loss to Belgium means they’ll be facing Colombia in the round-of-sixteen on Tuesday evening and if they can overcome James Rodriguez and co then they’ll be facing either Switzerland or Sweden in the quarter-finals. However, with Pickford in goal it’s unlikely that any of our Anfield faithful have much faith in getting to the last four of this tournament, despite the Three Lions now having a perceived ‘easier route’ to the final stages.

@LFC please don’t sign Pickford. Thanks

No way should Pickford be the goalkeeper after this. Put Pope in.

Worried when Pickford comes up against even better opposition. Jesus Christ!

As you can see, the Liverpool fans in the Tavern have little faith in Pickford and they’ll be nervously waiting for him to make a mistake on Tuesday against Colombia.
