A former Football Transfer Tavern favourite Marc Overmars is causing headlines in the bar, in his current position as director of football at Ajax.
The ex-Arsenal star has, according to The Express, told his former club and other potential Premier League suitors that their promising stars Joel Veltman and Davy Klaassen are not for sale.
The Amsterdam-based duo have reportedly been attracting interest from a whole host of suitors with representatives from different clubs watching them during their side’s recent match against Groningen last Thursday.
In recent days, Veltman has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in the tavern while there have also been whispers that Arsenal hold an interest in Klassen, who can play on either flank or down the middle.
However despite this speculation Overmars maintains that neither of Ajax’s top prospects with be leaving anytime soon.
He said: “We are constantly working on a puzzle and every time you have it almost complete, it can fall apart, because a piece is snapped up.
“But I will lie in front of the gate when they come for Joel Veltman or Davy Klaassen.
“I love Ajax being attractive for a transfer, but these guys are not leaving here.”
Veltman is under contract until 2017, while Klassen has one year less but reports indicate that they could both be leaving before then with the bright lights and money of the Premier League likely to attract them.
