The Chelsea fas in the Transfer Tavern are distraught today as they’ve found out the news that Jody Morris has left his post as the Chelsea U18s manager to join Frank Lampard’s coaching team at Derby County. The links that Morris and Lampard have to Chelsea will probably mean that the Rams will benefit from getting some Chelse youth players in on-loan, although the club has really lost out by losing Morris to the Pride Park faithful. Thank you and good luck at Derby, @morriskid! https://t.co/xk8PTG5yYF

Jody Morris is Chelsea through and through. In his playing days, he came through the club’s academy system to make over 170 appearances for the Blues before returning to the club in 2013 as a coach. Since then, Morris has worked with both the U21s and the U18s, although in the last two years as the head coach of the U18s he’s made his mark, winning a fantastic treble of the FA Youth Cup, Premier League Southern title and National League title.
Now though, Morris will be starting in his first role in senior football. Alongside Frank Lampard, who Morris shared a dressing room with for two years between 2001 and 2003, the pair will be looking to get Derby County back in the Premier League for the first time since they were relegated in 2008 with a record low 11 points. The task won’t be easy, but if they can recruit come of Morris’ ex-players from the Chelsea youth system it should make the job much easier.

I'm afraid you missed a trick there Chelsea. You need to as a club give people and young talent a chance, what worse can you do?
