Everton fans here in the Tavern are desperate to forget about their current campaign, with nothing to play for from here on in.
Sam Allardyce has done his best to give fans something to cheer about since taking over at the club back in November, but recent performances have suggested that there’s still lots of improvements to be had at Goodison Park. Indeed, with relegation no longer a worry for Everton they’re now left with the opportunity to take a look at some of their current players, with many playing for a potential future at the club.
However, there have been a few standout performers so far this season for the Toffees in a campaign that’s been based around poor results, with a couple of additions in the January transfer window somewhat lifting the tension on Merseyside. Indeed, having managed to climb away from the relegation zone under the guidance of Sam Allardyce, there’s been a couple of stars that have played a huge part in saving Everton’s season.
Therefore, here’s a look at TWO stars that have really impressed so far this season for the Toffees…
Wayne Rooney
Wayne Rooney returned to Goodison Park after becoming Manchester United’s all-time leading goalscorer, and has continued his goalscoring brilliance with 11 goals for Everton as the club’s current top scorer.
Indeed, the former England international has relished a return to his boyhood club, having chipped in with some valuable assists along the way in what’s been a fantastic first season back in the blue shirt.
Therefore, the 32-year-old deserves lots of recognition for his efforts so far this campaign as Everton’s standout performer by a mile, but he’ll now be looking to go one better next season.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Everton signed Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Sheffield United back in the summer of 2016, with the Englishman enjoying his breakthrough season in the current campaign.
Indeed, the 20-year-old has established himself as a first-team regular after some very mature performances, with eight goals and six assists highlighting his ability to play a key role in the team.
Calvert-Lewin has been one of the most underrated strikers in the Premier League this season, with not even our local residents appreciating the fine stats that he’s produced thus far. Although, having shown he has what it takes to perform on the big stage, it looks as if the forward is beginning to live up to his name as one of the most exciting prospects in English football.
