Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are starting to look back over the season and seeing which players have upped their game.

Since they last won the title, United have failed miserably in the Premier League while largely being in and around the Europa League spots. Jose Mourinho, to his credit, has turned the Red Devils into quite the force, and if it wasn’t for Man City’s sparkling form this year, United would have no doubt run them close.

Our regulars feel that this United team are maybe one or two players away from genuine title winners, however, this season has seen the rise of a couple of players that seem revitalised under Mourinho in his second season.

With that in mind, our barman and landlord sat down the other day and made a list of players that have impressed this season, and came up with these two that topped the bill…

Man United fans do you agree?

Ashley Young

Ashley Young may be the wrong side of thirty but that’s not stopped him charging up and down the wing like a teenager this season. In an unfamiliar role at fullback, Young has, for the majority of the season, kept natural left-back Luke Shaw out of the side.

If this form continues, United’s ability to change two wingers into fullbacks may be a masterstroke by Mourinho and, could be a key factor in challenging for the title.

Anthony Martial

The Frenchman dazzled in his first season at Old Trafford, though last year seemed a tough one for him to adjust. However, this season, he has had healthy competition rivalry with Marcus Rashford for the left wing spot, and Martial has shown he can be one of the hottest youngsters in Europe with some brilliant performances.

If this form continues, Martial could be the turning point in United’s future.
