‘An average top 6 squad player’ - Chelsea fans discuss defender after journalist’s Tweet

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern aren’t convinced by Marcos Alonso. The Spaniard has been a regular at Chelsea since his move from Fiorentina, but despite the regularity of his performances, he’s yet to really connect with the Stamford Bridge faithful.

On the pitch, he’s clearly a favourite of Antonio Conte, with the Italian continually picking him on the left-hand side of his defence.

Despite providing relatively solid defending and a decent attacking threat, particularly from set pieces, the Spaniard certainly isn’t a player that generates a lot of excitement amongst our resident Blues.

He’s a player that always incites discussion whenever his name is brought up, and so his inclusion in the PFA Team of the Season has, naturally, got the Chelsea fans over on Reddit talking.

It’s also got journalists talking, with Goal reporter Nizaar Kinsella taking to Twitter to question why Alonso is so unpopular with Chelsea fans. Clearly, judging by his Tweet, which can be seen below, he feels as though any hate towards him is unjust.
