Leeds United have a habit of producing a number of exciting prospects through the academy ranks at Thorp Arch.
And, it appears they are set to tie down another one to a new contract at some point this week.
Angus Kinnear, who is the managing director at Elland Road, revealed to the BBC’s West Yorkshire Sport Daily programme on Wednesday that Robbie Gotts is on the verge of securing a new agreement.
“I think Victor [Orta] and Marcelo [Bielsa] have done a lot to reassure those players of where their future lies,” he said.
“But at the same time we have signed some of the younger players, and Robbie will be signing a new contract this week. He is a player with a really exciting future.”
Gotts has been named on the substitutes bench for a number of Leeds’ matches this season, however, he is yet to make his debut for Bielsa’s side.
The Verdict:
Gotts is thought of extremely highly at Leeds and tying him down to a new contract is a smart move by the club, with his current deal set to expire in the summer.
A winger at trade, the teenager is very versatile and can also play as a full-back, should he be required to do so, which could benefit Bielsa this season as he has had problems on both sides of the defence in regards to injuries.
It is surely only a matter of time before Gotts gets his chance to impress in the first-team and he will want to take that opportunity with both hands as he will want to emulate the emergence of the likes of Jack Clarke.
