Another Homesick City Star Or More Garbage From An Agent?

Today brings another wild rumour from the ‘strange’ category of transfer stories, after signing David Silva for £24million last Summer Manchester City seemed to be onto a winner.

But after an excellent start to the season in which the player has become vital to the sides style of play, media outlets are now claiming the silky Spaniard is homesick and that Atletico Madrid are preparing a bid to take him back to his home country.  I personally don’t buy this one, but its my job to bring you the hottest rumours, so lets break this one down!

Silva began his career with Valencia and came up through their reserve side and academy and after 2 seasons playing out on loan with Elbar and then Celta Vigo, he broke into the Valencia first team for the 2006/2007 season at the age of 20.  His reputation grew during his time and he was often linked with moves to bigger sides, Manchester United had particular interest in the youngster at one time.

During his 4 seasons playing for Valencia, Silva managed 155 appearances scoring 29 goals and creating 48.  Before the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Roberto Mancini completed the transfer of the Spaniard in a deal worth £24million and he joined the team as a world cup winner before the start of this season.  He has been a great asset to the side and is generally behind a lot of the good things the team does, the relationship he has built with Carlos Tevez has been particularly promising.

His excellent dribbling ability and fantastic passing game oozes class and it appears that Mancini is aiming to build his team around the player, allowing him a free role to pull the strings and float wherever he likes.  The players talent for spotting runs and picking passes has made him a stand out performer so far this season, and whilst many people suggested he may struggle because of his slight stature, those doubters have now been proved wrong.  Just as things were looking up for the player at his new club, reports crop up claiming that he is homesick and in particular sick of the Manchester weather.

Sources suggest that the players agent has been in contact with the powers that be at Atletico Madrid about a potential move there in the Summer, however it is known that City will want to make all their money back on the exciting winger therefore it would take a huge offer to convince them to sell.

In my mind I don’t really see a great deal in this story, on numerous occasions the player has spoken out about how much he is enjoyed life at City and playing in the Premier League, and yes the weather is rubbish but you get used to it!  I also do not see the club just letting the player slip away, they will do anything they can (within reason) to keep him happy.

Silva does not appear homesick and since most of this seems to be coming from his agent it probably again revolves around money!  There is also the factor that Atletico have suffered financial problems in recent years and there has to be questions over whether they could afford a fee that City would accept.

In my opinion I don’t see the player moving anywhere next Summer, but stranger things have happened and that is why we love a transfer rumour.
