The summer transfer window is not only our favourite time of the year in the Football Transfer Tavern, it gives every team in England the chance to build up their squads to improve them for the long term.

For some teams its about a complete overhaul, getting as many new players in as possible to improve a seriously under-performing side from the season before.

For others its about bringing in a couple of names to compliment a good core of players that did well last time out, a little like Leicester City for example.

For Antonio Conte at Chelsea, his transfer business had been quietly conducted earlier on in the window when he first arrived. He quickly brought in Michy Batshuayi and N’Golo Kante during the first couple of weeks in-charge but now the big task he faces is getting rid of some of the deadwood in the squad.

Chelsea have a huge list of players that are nowhere near the first-team but are still on the books and it needs to be sorted before the end of the season.

So with that in mind, here’s THREE Chelsea men that need to be moved on before the end of the window…

Loic Remy

A good squad player to have, but is former Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy ever going to fire Chelsea to Premier League glory? Probably not, no. In which case, Conte should get rid.

At the best clubs in the world you have replacements that are as good as your first-team starters. The Frenchman is nowhere near the same level as Diego Costa and Michy Batshuayi and if I was Conte, I’d be thinking about moving the Frenchman on.

Nemanja Matic

Despite Antonio Conte insisting that he and the Serbian midfielder have no problems between them, our Landlord can’t see Matic remaining at Stamford Bridge beyond the transfer window.

He was playing in Mikel John Obi’s shadow for long parts of the season last year and Chelsea could still command a good transfer fee for the 28-year-old midfielder.

Juventus have been linked with a move for the 28-year-old and with the Italian giants are not hesitating in splashing the cash and bringing in some big names.

Christian Atsu

Christian Atsu has been at Stamford Bridge for three years now and is still yet to make his debut for the club, despite being 24 years-old.

The pacy Ghanaian, who has been capped over 40 times at international level can play in midfield, on the wing or even behind the striker but he’s never been recalled from his various loan moves as Chelsea have gone through manager after manager.

But sometimes you just know that your time is up and for this man, he needs to seek pastures new. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out and it would be better for Atsu if he cut his losses and tried to permanently set up elsewhere.
