Arsenal have had a storming start to the campaign this season and our resident Gunners fans here in the Transfer Tavern are beginning to think the club are in with a serious chance of the Premier League title.
The last time Arsenal won the league was in 2003/04 with the famous invincibles squad and many feel now that this current crop that Arsene Wenger has assembled is the best one since then.
Whilst it won’t go unbeaten, Liverpool saw to that on the opening day, the popular opinion is it will at least go close to the crown with the aforementioned Reds, Manchester City, Chelsea and Spurs all looking good, too.
A number of Arsenal players have come flying out of the traps, too, and look determined to seize glory this time around with a number of fine individual and team displays to boot.
It’s up for debate, though, who the best has been so far but fortunately over at whoscored.com the stats have been compiled to show that these THREE Gunners have been the best so far….
Alexis Sanchez – 7.90
Sanchez has been on fire once again this season so it’s no surprise to see him make the list.
The Chilean has been asked to play down the middle more as a striker by Arsene Wenger this year with Lucas Perez struggling, and Olivier Giroud having injury issues and has duly delivered.
Six goals and three assists in the Premier League this season is a pretty good return so far.
Laurent Koscielny – 7.64
As always, Koscielny has been Arsenal’s best defender.
The Frenchman looks as though he has formed quite a strong looking relationship at the back with summer signing Shkodran Mustafi, and that is part of the reason why Arsenal are looking good this year.
He’s also chipped in with two goals so far and so all round he is offering the Gunners a great deal.
Theo Walcott – 7.63
Walcott has been one of the stories of the season so far with his resurgence.
He was much-maligned last year and it looked as though he could leave but Arsene Wenger kept the faith and he is surely seeing that being repaid now.
The winger has got himself back into the England set up thanks to his fine form and five goals and two assists in the Premier League, just about sums up his great start.
