Dozens were considered but only three could make the final cut.
Special players bring special goals but some of our locals feel it was the Man City of old that they enjoyed more.
However, since the take-over from an Abu Dhabi based consortium in 2008 the club have gone from strength to strength with the all round quality improving – including the quality of goals scored.
It’s difficult to narrow so many brilliant strikes down to just three. After numerous hours of research and debating with our landlord, these are the three goals we opted for to include into our greatest of all-time.

Yaya Toure vs Aston Villa
If ever there was a goal to sum up Yaya Toure this is it.
A brilliant run from inside his own half ending up in him scoring a forth as City ran out 4-0 winners against Paul Lambert’s men on their way to the title in 2014.
It’s simply not about the finish or the style but the sheer power, agility and strength the Ivorian shows to not only hold onto the ball and run at the Villa defence, but to remain in possession with half the team surrounding him and attempting to dispossess him that makes it all the more special.
Toure was signed in 2010 as a holding midfielder and could lay claim to being City’s most important ever player.
Elano vs Newcastle United

If someone can find me a better free-kick in Premier League history then victory is yours. Elano scored Manchester City’s third in a 3-1 victory over Newcastle in 2007 when the “Sven Revolution” was firmly underway.
30 yards out Elano fires the ball like an arrow into the opposite corner of Shay Given’s goal. The power, placement and accuracy of the Brazilian’s strike makes this a certainty to make the top-three.
Watching him strike the ball in live play is something extra-ordinary, however watching it from behind the player and seeing the ball hit the roof of Shay Given’s top right hand corner was something unforgettable.
Dennis Tueart vs Newcastle United
The League Cup final of 1976 will always be remembered as the Tueart final. The former Mackem came up against his arch-rival Newcastle but this time in the blue of Manchester City.
A superb winning goal from Dennis Tueart who scored arguably the greatest League Cup final goal of all-time. A bicycle-kick 18 yards out somehow found the bottom corner of the Newcastle goal to give the thousands of City fans at Wembley their last trophy until 2011.
The importance and skill make this a cert to make our top three with many of our locals in the Tavern in full agreement.
