Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern have provided a good source of laughter this morning as they reply to news that Ivorian right-back, Serge Aurier, has been named in the Gazzetta Dello Sport (via Sport Witness) European team of the week. The 25-year-old registered a goal and an assist in Tottenham’s 4-1 over Bournemouth on Sunday.
Despite Aurier’s end product on the weekend, Spurs fans disagree with the decision to include their Ivorian livewire. Aurier has struggled to win over the Spurs fans so far this season as his reckless approach to football has left many of the Tottenham faithful questioning the defender. In his short time at Spurs, Aurier has already managed to give away penalties in Europe against both Real Madrid and Juventus as well as being sent off on his Premier League debut away at West Ham.
The former PSG man has a history of causing trouble both on and off the pitch, although when signed by Mauricio Pochettino many fans believed the superb man-management of the Argentine would be enough to straighten Aurier out and into the world-class full-back that many believe he can be. Whilst the Aurier ‘experiment’ is only in its early days, Spurs fans will be hoping the best of their defender is yet to come.

I can only imagine they didn’t actually watch the game but instead looked at the goal and assist stat.
