Manchester City fans in the Football Transfer Tavern fear that Roma’s intentions revealed in the Mirror may be too much for City to compete with as they are lining up a £18.1m package for James Milner.
Arsenal and Liverpool are also pursuing the versatile midfielder, and they could be set to lose out to Serie A giants Roma
City’s situation with Milner is very delicate because his contract expires in six months and he has still not decided what will happen next regarding to his future.
He has not signed a new contract at the Etihad yet because Manuel Pellegrini cannot guarantee him first team football, despite him being one of City’s most influential players this season.
This has given other clubs in England and abroad the hope they can secure his signature as he is set to make a decision on his future in the next few weeks.
And Roma’s director of football, Walter Sabatini, has travelled to Manchester for talks, after Milner impressed him whilst playing against them in the Champions League.
He is willing to pay over the odds for the former Aston Villa, Newcastle and Leeds player with rumours suggesting they will pay Milner £100k a week over the course of a three-year contract, after tax.
