Arsenal: Club interested in signing Willian in the summer

Arsenal are looking at a lot of players ahead of the next transfer window, and the latest news suggests that they might look to take another player from London rivals Chelsea.

According to the Orstein and Chapman podcast on The Athletic, the Gunners want to sign Willian on a free transfer in the summer window.

The winger signed a short-term contract to keep him at Stamford Bridge until the end of the season, but it looks likely that he will not sign a longer deal as he is after a three-year extension and Frank Lampard’s side are only offering the winger a two-year deal.

France Football have reported that fellow Premier League rivals Manchester United are also interested in the 31 year-old.

The Brazilian has had an impressive career at Chelsea, playing 330 times, scoring 59 goals and picking up 59 assists, per Transfermarkt. He has also won the League Cup and the FA Cup once, as well as the Premier League twice.

This highlights that he has a lot of great experience in this division and a winning mentality, which could be exactly what Arsenal need to push them higher up the division next season.

Even though he is 31, he has shown no signs of slowing down this season. Indeed he has scored seven goals and provided six assists in all competitions this term, whilst also averaging 2.3 dribbles, 2.1 key passes and 1.8 shots per game (WhoScored).

On balance it looks like this could be a quality signing for Arsenal as he is on a free and we know that he can still perform in the Premier League.
