Arsenal fans have been left bemoaning the treatment of Matteo Guendouzi during the Europa League win yesterday.
The France youth international seemed to be the centre of attention for Olympiacos players as he was fouled the joint-most times out of Mikel Arteta’s men (via WhoScored). He seemed to bounce back well after being dropped from the matchday squad against Newcastle United as he made the joint-most clearances and the joint-second most interceptions of any of his teammates, as per WhoScored. The 20-year-old was also clean and tidy in possession as he had the third-highest passing accuracy in the side.
Guendouzi has endured a tough few months since Unai Emery left north London towards the end of November, having started just eight of the last 17 games across all competitions (via Transfermarkt). Fans were left feeling angry with the opposition players after watching them foul the £45m-rated, as per Transfermarkt, midfielder. Here is a selection of tweets from the supporters:
I’m surprised that none of the Olympiacos players tried to foul Guendouzi as he walked to the dressing room at the interval.

The refs have just let their players foul Guendouzi out of the game. He is limping off. #OLYARS

Guendouzi is the one controlling the pace of the match, that’s why they are fouling him so much. He is the engine in that team.
