Arsenal: Fans delighted at Emi Martinez decision

Last season, Unai Emery moved quickly to sign Bernd Leno as he looked to strengthen between the sticks and, now into his second season, the Spaniard looks to be getting his options in order ahead of pre-season.

Petr Cech’s retirement obviously leaves the Gunners a little light in the goalkeeping department although they’ve had the good news from Goal.com that Emiliano Martinez has decided to stick around at the club and play as Leno’s deputy.

The Argentine spent the second half of last season on-loan at Reading where the Argentine impressed.

Keeping five clean sheets in 18 games (per Transfermarkt) as the Royals retained their status in the second tier, he produced some great stops, including one against Ipswich that drew incredible praise, with Soccer AM on Twitter describing the keeper as ‘like a prime David Seaman’ for the save.

According to Goal, the goalkeeper had a number of offers on the table this summer for a move away but has decided to stay in North London for yet another year. By summer 2020 he’ll have clocked up a decade with the Gunners, and the fans are delighted that he’s going to be staying on as their second choice.
