Arsenal fans have been showing their excitement after reports emerged claiming the club have told Thomas Partey’s agent that they want to activate his €50m release clause (roughly £42m).
According to Libertad Digital, the Gunners are very serious about signing the player, however, Partey is keen on remaining at Atletico Madrid. Currently, he is in talks with the Spanish side about extending his contract, which expires at the end of the 2022/2023 season.
Partey has featured consistently under Diego Simeone this campaign, appearing in 33 games across all competitions. This season, he has been a stalwart of the Champions League team and has played every single minute bar the last 14 in the clash against Juventus on matchday one (via Transfermarkt). Indeed, Partey averages more tackles per game when compared to any of Mikel Arteta’s central midfielders, as per WhoScored.
