Arsenal fans were falling in love with striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after Unai Emery revealed the striker let Nicolas Pepe (via the Mirror) take the penalty against Aston Villa.
Pepe, the summer signing from French club Lille, had gone without a goal in his first six games of his Arsenal career until the Gabon international gave him the penalty yesterday (via Transfermarkt).
Aubameyang has been on fire for the Gunners this season, scoring seven goals in seven games in all competitions. However, his good form stretches far back into last season, with the forward’s goal against Aston Villa making it 16 goals in his last 16 games (via Twitter).
This isn’t the first time Aubameyang has proved charitable towards a teammate struggling with form. Back in 2018, the striker gave forward partner Alexandre Lacazette a penalty opportunity whilst on a hat-trick versus Stoke City (via Arsenal).
Fans were fawning over their star striker as they took to Twitter to show their appreciation, with many calling for him to become captain.
Here is a selection of tweets from these Gooners:
You see this. This is my striker. And this is captain material. @UnaiEmery_ you have 2 decisions to make which are easy, but could save your job.
1. Make Auba or Laca captain.
2. Drop Xhaka and sell him to a rival in January. @Arsenal— Hasss (@HX54NXX) September 22, 2019
