Arsenal fans have made no secret of the fact that they’re desperate to sign a defender in what’s left of the January transfer window. The Gunners are thin on the ground at the back with a number of defenders out, however, even in their desperate state, they don’t want to sign Gary Cahill, who they’ve been linked with by The Daily Mirror.

To call Gary Cahill a veteran would be an understatement. The English centre-back is now 33-years-old, and whilst a lot of defenders don’t peak until they hit 30, Cahill certainly isn’t near his peak. The ex-Aston Villa and Bolton man has been a Stamford Bridge loyal since January 2012, and it would be a real shock to see him end his seven-year stay at the club to follow Petr Cech to The Emirates.
However, the Gunners are running out of both time and options, and with Chelsea reportedly ready to let the defender go, it would make sense if he was to leave as he’d be given plenty of first-team chances at Arsenal, and that’s something he’s just not getting with the Blues as he sits behind Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger, David Luiz and even the lesser fancied Andreas Christiansen in the pecking order.

The Gunners want nothing less than to sign Gary Cahill and would hate to see Unai Emery bring in the unwanted Chelsea man.
