Arsenal fans on Twitter keen to see Sol Campbell succeed in new role

The news was confirmed yesterday that ex-Arsenal and Tottenham captain, Sol Campbell had been named as the new manager at League Two’s bottom club, Macclesfield Town. The Silkman are struggling seven points deep into the relegation zone after 19 games and Campbell certainly has his work cut out for him.

Campbell has become just another ex-Arsenal man to take up a role in management this season. Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira are both plying their trade in Ligue 1 as Monaco and OGC Nice, and now that Campbell has taken his first senior role as a manager, the future could see Arsenal fans given a lot of choices if they ever want to see a legendary ex-player given the role at The Emirates.

If Campbell can keep Macclesfield up then he will have more than proved his worth as a gaffer. So far, they’ve won just two games out of 19 in the league and with a lot of games ahead of them, at least the 44-year-old has plenty of games to try and implement his style and get the side playing the football he wants to. Being a former defender himself, though, you’d think that tightening up the Silkmen’s leaky defence will be high up on his to-do list.
