Arsenal fans take to Twitter to call for Elneny departure

When Arsenal signed Mohamed Elneny back in January 2016 there really wasn’t a lot of hype around the midfielder. Basel were happy to let him go and whilst he did soon score his first Arsenal goal against Barcelona in the Champions League that season, he really hasn’t proven to be Arsenal calibre and now The Sun are linking him with a £15 million move away.

The Egyptian international has always been one of those who when he plays he manages to put in a 6/10 performance. He’ll never let his side down but equally, he’ll never shine through and let his quality be known. If Unai Emery can get £15 million out of the 26-year-old then it will be superb business from the Spaniard, who obviously has no intentions of using the man signed by his predecessor, Arsene Wenger.

Elneny has featured four times for The Gunners this season, with three of those in the Europa League and one in the Carabao Cup. Those games look like the most he’ll get in an Arsenal shirt and unless Emery suffers something of an injury crisis then it’s hard to see the ex-Basel man picking up any minutes in the Premier League ahead of the likes of Granit Xhaka, Lucas Torreira, Aaron Ramsey and Matteo Guendouzi.

The Gunners will have no regrets over selling Elneny and will hope the £15 million fee being reported can be put towards a better replacement for the Egyptian.
