Arsenal are interested in making a move for Gent player Jonathan David, according to Jeunes Footeaux.
The Gunners are said to be a fighting a whole host of clubs for the playmaker’s signature with Everton, Leicester City and teams in France and Italy eyeing up a move.
Statistically, a move for the midfielder could be a smart one from Arsenal’s point of view. Not only has David performed well in league football, but he has also held his own in the Europa League, scoring four times for his club. Overall, the Canadian has enjoyed a superb season, notching up 19 goals and contributing 10 assists in just 36 games across all competitions (via Transfermarkt). If he was part of Mikel Arteta’s squad, he would be the highest attacking contributor, holding an 11-goal gap to the nearest player.
Football Whispers wrote of his ability to wreak havoc with intelligent movement in an attacking midfield berth too, suggesting he could help supplement the attacking line.
Indeed, his stats suggest he has the attacking instinct to supply goals from the engine room, an area in which the Gunners have struggled considering the fact only Joe Willock has scored more than 2 goals from there this season, the campaign after they lost Aaron Ramsey who was a regular source of goals from that area.
With Mesut Ozil having scored one goal and contributed just two assists this year, it’s not as if he’s proving the answer either. So, considering his stats in front of goal, perhaps a move for David could prove useful.
