Arsenal are thought to be monitoring the availability of Brazilian attacker Everton Soares, with the club reportedly seeking a medical for the 23-year-old, according to Fox Sports Brasil (via The Daily Mirror).
The Gremio winger was recently part of Brazil’s successful Copa America campaign, scoring three goals on the team’s way to winning the tournament on home soil – including one in the final during their 3-1 victory over Peru.
He was also named Man of the Match in the final, while he took home the top scorer award for the competition to cap a marvellous campaign for him and his country.
Soares has been in decent goalscoring form on the wing for his club side, too – with the Brazilian scoring three times at the start of Gremio’s league campaign prior to this summer’s Copa America tournament.
The Gunners have previously attempted to sign Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace with a £40m bid, though Soares may end up being a cheaper alternative – with the forward being rated at around £36m (per The Daily Mirror).
Arsenal did not have many options on the wing last season, though the likes of Alex Iwobi have already been added to with the acquisition of Gabriel Martinelli and the promotion to the first team for Reiss Nelson – who played there to some success during his spell at Hoffenheim last season.
Therefore, you can see why Arsenal have felt the need to beef up that position this summer.
If it adds a new dimension to the Gunners attack – with Soares displaying a far higher goal threat from out wide than potential rival Iwobi, scoring 10 goals in his last 26 appearances (with the Nigerian notching just four in 49) – then Unai Emery may feel it could be worth the gamble.
Clearly an exciting player considering his exploits on the international front, it could certainly be a deal worth pursuing for the Gunners.
