Arsenal: Mikel Arteta would prefer to sign Dani Ceballos on a loan deal

It seems like Mikel Arteta has made a final decision on whether he wants the club to make a move for Dani Ceballos, following his loan spell at Arsenal expiring at the end of last season.

According to The Express, Arteta would like to see whether Real Madrid will allow the midfielder to join the Gunners on another loan deal and have started negotiations with Los Galacticos about such a transfer.

The North London side want to improve their squad, but due to their lack of finances, they want to loan Ceballos to free up funds for Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey.

Ceballos impressed under Mikel Arteta and became a key player as he made 24 appearances in the Premier League last season, averaging 1.9 tackles and 1.3 interceptions per game, via WhoScored. He also picked up two assists whilst averaging 1.2 key passes and 1.1 successful dribbles a game.

This highlights that at the club, the Spaniard could help the defence, but also be a menace for his opposition at the other end of the pitch, and this, combined with the fact that when football returned he picked up a rating above seven in seven of the 13 matches that he played in, per SofaScore, highlights that Arteta was getting the best out of him.

He is also only 24, and has bags of potential, so if the club can manage to get him on another loan not only will it help them bolster the squad for next season, but it will also mean they will not have wasted any transfer money and gives them a better chance of being able to afford Partey.

The amount they would save by just acquiring the former Champions League winner on loan would be a lot as he is valued at £28.80 million on Transfermarkt.
