We at the Football Transfer Tavern are keen to see Wayne Rooney stay in the Premier League and it now appears Arsenal are offering him that chance, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Manchester United striker played an hour of England’s friendly with Scotland on Wednesday night, putting to bed any rumours of injury.
David Moyes was at the game but avoided any talk of the striker who has declared his ambition to leave Old Trafford this summer after issues with Sir Alex Ferguson and now Moyes have come about.
The Gunners have seen two bids rejected for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez in recent weeks and it now appears the Uruguayan has apologised to Brendan Rodgers and his team mates over his comments this summer, leaving him able to re-join the first team at Anfield.
Wenger has now turned to Rooney to solve his striker shortage but Arsenal have tough competition from Chelsea and the face United don’t want to see to think about.
“I don’t want to come out on specific names as that would not be right, but the first request we have is do they have the quality to play for Arsenal Football Club,” stated Wenger.
“We are not scared to spend money, but only on the right players. We would like two or three players, possibly more, but we will compromise on the quality.
“I understand every frustration (of the fans). What is important is the quality we put on the football pitch, but let’s not create a crisis from nothing.
“We played a good game last week (to beat Manchester City in Finland), so let’s try to take that on. The quality of the team that plays tomorrow will not be linked about who we sign.”
