It looks like Arsenal are keen on experienced Premier League players, as the latest rumours suggest that the Gunners would like to sign Tyrone Mings.
According to The Athletic’s Ornstein & Chapman Podcast, the defender is on their radar and is only on £25,000 a week at Villa Park, which the Gunners should be able to pay. However, they are unsure whether they will be able to pay the transfer fee that Aston Villa will place on the defender.
With Villa fighting for survival in the Premier League, Mings could fancy the move if he is unable to prevent them from dropping out of the division. He has impressed this season, averaging 5.8 clearances and 1.7 blocks per game, via WhoScored. These figures are better than the equivalents posted by current Arsenal trio David Luiz, Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi.
His good performances have clearly been noted as England manager Gareth Southgate gave the centre-back his Three Lions debut in October 2019, via Transfermarkt.
Also, at 27, he is at a prime age where he has the experience of nearly 50 Premier League games while still being young enough to become a long-term leader in the Gunners’ defence.
This type of transfer seems like a sensible move from Arsenal and it will be interesting to see if they make an offer for the Englishman in the summer.
